The Big Red embarks on its final roadtrip of the semester as it heads to Princeton and Quinnipiac this weekend. Cornell will face Princeton on Friday in a 7 p.m. contest before traveling to Quinnipiac for a 4 p.m. matchup on Saturday.

ABOUT THE BIG RED
Cornell split its two games last weekend, blanking #2 Clarkson, 2-0, before dropping a close 3-2 loss to perennial ECAC Hockey heavyweight St. Lawrence. The loss to the Saints broke a five-game winning streak for the Big Red, but the strength of the win over Clarkson kept the Big Red ranked in both national polls, including moving up three spots to seventh in the USA Today poll. Sophomore Catherine White leads the team in scoring with a total of 10 points, scoring three points last weekend on two goals and an assist. The defense has remained solid, allowing only 15 goals to rank seventh in the nation in scoring defense and anchoring the top-ranked penalty kill in the nation.Goaltender Amanda Mazzota continues to impress, earning a shutout in her past three Friday night games, giving her a career total of 5 shutouts. Mazzotta has a .918 save percentage and a 1.76 goals-against average through the first eight games of the season.

HEAD COACH DOUG DERRAUGH
In his fifth season behind the Big Red bench, Doug Derraugh has turned the Cornell women's hockey program into one of women's college hockey's top young programs. Derraugh has a career record of 42-75-9, but has taken the Big Red to a back-to-back double-digit wins in each of the last two seasons, the first time the Big Red has done that since the 1999-2000 and 2000-01 seasons. He has also led Cornell to the ECAC Hockey playoffs in each of the last two years. Derraugh is assisted by Danielle Biloudeau, in her fourth season, and Edith Zimmering, in her first year with the Big Red.

ABOUT PRINCETON
The Tigers split last weekend with a 4-1 loss against Dartmouth and a 2-1 overtime win against Harvard on Saturday. Princeton has relied on a young roster that boasts 12 players that are either freshmen or sophomores. Sophomore Heather Landry was the bright spot in the Harvard win, tallying two goals including the game-winner, her second of the season. Landry and fellow sophomores Danielle DiCesare and Paula Romanchuk have anchored the scoring unit by recording 30 of the team's 80 points. Rookie Kelly Cooke rounds out the nation's fourth-ranked offense with a point per game average. Rookie Cassie Seguin and sophomore Rachel Weber have split time in goal, with Seguin posting a .918 save percentage and a 1.64 goals-against average.

THE SERIES WITH PRINCETON
Princeton leads the all-time series against Cornell, 40-27-4. After a tough 6-3 loss early on in the season last year, the Big Red came back to earn a 2-2 tie in their second meeting against the Tigers on February 7th.

ABOUT QUINNIPIAC
The Bobcats also split last weekend, beating Dartmouth, 2-1, but falling to Harvard by a 7-2 score, allowing four goals in the third period. Rookie Heather Hughes has had a breakout freshman year, leading the Bobcats in scoring with five goals and three assists for eight points.Senior Janine Duffy, who was responsible for the two goals against Harvard. Freshman goaltender Victoria Vigilanti has seen the majority of time between the pipes with a .939 save percentage and a 1.57 goals-against average.

THE SERIES WITH QUINNIPIAC
Cornell leads with a 4-3-3 record in their short ten-game history against the Bobcats. The Big Red tied both games against Quinnipiac last season, with the second contest on February 6th ending in a 4-4 decision in Hamden, Conn.

LEADING THE WAY
Through six ECAC Hockey games this season, the Big Red has led for 243:12, or an astonishing 67.6 percent of the time. The Big Red has only trailed for a total of 6:06 (or 1.7 percent of the time) in its six league games. Cornell trailed for just 45 seconds against Harvard on Oct. 31 and for another 5:21 against St. Lawrence on Nov. 14. Cornell has yet to trail in a road game this season. For the season, Cornell has led 50.7 percent of the time, while trailing just 19.7 percent.

NATURAL BORN KILLERS
Allowing just one power play goal in 29 opportunities, Cornell has maintained its status as the number one penalty kill in the country despite being the second least penalized team, averaging just 7.8 minutes per game in the penalty box. The special teams unit has also gotten a boost from the power play, which has converted for 7 goals from 7 different players in 35 power play opportunities (20 percent).

EVEN FLOW
Despite the loss of last year's leading scorer and Patty Kazmier Award nominee Rebecca Johnston, the Big Red has shown the ability to record points by utilizing a well-balanced attack; 14 players on the 16-skater roster have contributed to the team's 42 points. The only skaters on the roster who have yet to find the scoring column are sophomore Jenna Paulson and freshman Xandra Hompe.

BRICK WALL
Borrowing a page from the men's hockey program, which has a history of producing outstanding goaltenders, sophomore Amanda Mazzotta has been outstanding in ECAC Hockey action this year. After allowing seven goals in the first two games of the season against Mercyhurst, Mazzotta now ranks eighth in the nation in goals-against average (1.76). In league play, she is allowing just 1.17 goals per game, ranking second in league games and earning ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Week once so far this season for her play against Dartmouth and Harvard.

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS-OUT
Amanda Mazzotta has played lights-out hockey on Fridays this season, as the sophomore netminder has posted three shutouts, all coming on Fridays this season. Two of those blankings have come at the hands of teams ranked in the top 10 of the nation in Dartmouth and Clarkson. In four Friday games this season, Mazzotta has only allowed three goals, with Mercyhurst scoring an empty net goal in the season opener.

TWO-WAY PLAYERS
Cornell's women's hockey team has a pair of players who give new meaning to the term two-way player, as senior Melanie Jue and freshman Xandra Hompe are dual-sport athletes. Jue is a goalie for the field hockey team, and finished the season ranked second in the nation in save percentage. Hompe, meanwhile, is a forward for the women's soccer team, and tallied a pair of assists this fall for the Big Red.

HALFWAY TO THE CENTURY MARK
With the assist on Chelsea Karpenko's goal in the third period of the Harvard game on Nov. 7, Catherine White scored her 50th career point. In just her second year with the Big Red, White has the highest point total of any player on the Cornell roster. Two others are nearing the 50 point mark, as junior Karlee Overguard has 46 points in 68 career games and senior Liz Zorn has 41 points in 93 career games.

UP NEXT
Lynah Rink will host a two-game series against Niagara over Thanksgiving break. The first game will begin at 7 pm on Saturday Nov. 28th before closing out the series on Nov. 29 at 2 p.m.
