ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cornell women's ice hockey team completely dominated the play, but needed a goal from senior Melanie Jue in the closing seconds of regulation to send the game to overtime and force a 2-2 tie with Yale this evening at Lynah Rink.

With just 1:35 remaining in the game, the Big Red pulled Amanda Mazzotta from the goal, hoping that an extra skater would help the home team get the equalizer. With less than 20 seconds to play, Cornell's Catherine White won a face-off deep in the Yale zone. Chelsea Karpenko poked the puck across the front of the crease and Jue banked it into the back of the net with 13 seconds showing on the clock.

Cornell (7-4-2, 6-1-2 ECACH) managed to put five shots on goal during the extra session, to Yale's one, but weren't able to capitalize as Jackee Snikeris turned each shot away. The Bulldogs' netminder finished the night with 38 saves.

The Big Red had the advantage throughout the game, outshooting Yale, 40-16. Cornell also enjoyed four power plays, but weren't able to score an extra-man goal, while the Bulldogs went 0-for-2 on the power play. Amanda Mazzotta finished with 14 saves.

Cornell scored the first goal of the game, coming as a result of a face-off in the Yale zone. Karpenko won the puck, pushing it ahead to Liz Zorn on the right side of the net. Zorn quickly centered the puck to Laura Danforth, who one-timed it past Snikeris, making it a 1-0 game at the 14:32 mark of the first period.

The Big Red's lead didn't last long, however, as Yale answered back just 27 seconds later when Alyssa Zupon slapped a shot past Mazzotta from the left circle.

Yale (2-8-2, 1-7-1 ECACH) only had one legitimate scoring chance in the second period, but the Bulldogs made the most of it as Bray Ketchum picked off a Cornell pass near mid-ice. She streaked down the left side before finding Aleca Hughes on the right side of the crease. Hughes beat Mazzotta over her left shoulder to put the visitors up, 2-1.

Cornell is back in action tomorrow, Saturday, Dec. 5, as it plays host to Brown at Lynah Rink at 4 p.m.
