KISSIMMEE, Fla.—The Big Red softball team opened the Rebel Spring Games on Tuesday afternoon. Cornell defeated Rhode Island, 11-0, in five innings, but lost to Iona, 3-1, in its second game of the day. The Big Red is 11-5 for the year. Senior Jessy Berkey went 4-for-6 on the day.
The Big Red opened its day win a win over Rhode Island. Freshman Lauren Marx picked up the win pitching four innings and striking out three batters. Classmate Nikki Dulaney took over in the fifth inning. Junior Alyson Intihar went 2-for-4 with a double, Berkey went 3-for-3, and Devon March went 2-for-3.

In its second game of the day, Cornell was edged out by Iona, 3-1. Sophomore Ali Tomlinson struck out two batters in the loss.
Iona took a 3-0 lead after scoring two runs in the third and one in the fourth.
Junior Ashley Garvey notched Cornell's only run with a home run to center field.
The Big Red will play Manhattan and Colgate on Wednesday morning.
