Rebecca Johnston had two goals and two assists and
Brianne Jenner had a pair of goals and one assist to lead the Cornell women's hockey team to a 6-0 victory in an exhibition game against the Etobicoke Jr. Dolphins on Friday night at Lynah Rink. In all, eight of the 14 skaters dressed scored at least one point on the night for the Big Red.
Lauriane Rougeau and
Laura Fortino both added a pair of assists for the Big Red, while
Jessica Campbell and
Hayley Hughes both added a goal.
Alyssa Gagliardi and
Amanda Young rounded out the scorers with an assist apiece. In goal for Cornell,
Katie Wilson got the start and picked up five saves, while
Lauren Slebodnick made three stops in coming on in relief midway through the second period.
For Etobicoke, Samantha Harman played an exceptional game in goal, stopping 47 shots in the loss. She stopped 17 shots in the second period, book-ended by 15-save periods in the first and third.
Cornell got on the board 8:43 into the game with Johnston scoring a short-handed goal, being sprung behind the Etobicoke defense by an outlet pass from the half-wall by Jenner. Johnston was able to beat Harman with a back-handed chance to score the eventual game-winner.
Jenner got on the board with a shot from the goal line extended to Harman's right at the 13:30 mark of the first period, collecting a pass from Fortino that was tipped by Johnston as the Big Red took the 2-0 lead into the break.
Campbell scored her marker at the 6:22 mark of the second period at even strength, and the Big Red tacked on three more goals in the third period, including a power-play strike from Jenner midway through the frame.
Cornell finished the night 2-for-6 on the power play while successfully killing off all three of Etobicoke's power-play chances.
The Big Red will next play an intra-squad Red-White Game on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Lynah Rink before opening up the regular season on Friday, Oct. 22, with a 7 p.m. contest against Robert Morris at Lynah Rink.
