HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Colgate women's basketball team used an 18-3 scoring run late in the second half to blow open a two-point game and defeat the Big Red, 65-52, this evening at Cotterell Court in Hamilton, N.Y. With the loss, Cornell enters the 17-day study break with a 1-6 record.

Freshman Allyson DiMagno and sophomore Taylor Flynn were the Big Red's leading scorers with 10 points apiece. DiMagno also chipped in seven rebounds, while Flynn finished with two assists and two steals. Freshman Stephanie Long had one of her most complete games in a Cornell uniform with seven points, eight rebounds and five assists. Sophomore Clare Fitzpatrick filled out the stat line with six points, four rebounds, four steals and two blocked shots.

Colgate (3-5) was led by Sami Kozlowski's 12 points, while Tayler Wejnert and Jhazmine Lynch finished with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Wejnert also registered a team-best six rebounds and Lynch handed out eight assists.

Cornell shot just 30 percent overall and 25 percent from 3-point range in the first half before finishing at 33.3 percent from both the floor and beyond the arc. The Raiders, meanwhile, finished the game at 43.9 percent overall and 40 percent from 3-point range. Colgate also held the slim edge in rebounds (36-34) and forced 18 Big Red turnovers with nine steals. Cornell registered eight steals of its own as the Raiders turned the ball over 15 times.

Colgate jumped out to an early 7-2 lead at the 14:30 mark, but within two minutes the Big Red knotted the game at 7-7, beginning with a deep trey from the left corner by Flynn, before Long scored a put-back off an offensive rebound. In-between the offensive possessions, Fitzpatrick denied a shot by Krista Moser, one of two blocks on the night by the sophomore forward.

Back-to-back baskets restored a four-point advantage to the home team, but the lead was short-lived, as a pair of made free throws from DiMagno and a 3-pointer from Shelby Lyman put Cornell up, 12-11 at the 10:34 mark.

The teams traded layups with a bucket by Lynch being answered by Long, but after that the Big Red went cold and Colgate scored five unanswered points to go up, 19-14.

The Raiders' run was ended by a made free throw by Long, but Colgate maintained at least a four-point lead until Fitzpatrick hit a jumper from the right baseline as the shot-clock expired before Flynn nailed a deep jumper from the left corner to make it a 25-25 game with 1:00 to play.

Moments later, Kozlowski returned the lead to Colgate, giving the home team the 27-25 advantage going into the intermission.

The Raiders took a five-point lead early in the second half, using a pair of free throws by Tricia Oakes to go up, 30-25, at the 17:23 mark. A free-throw line jumper by Allie Munson cut the lead to 30-27, but that was as close as it got until a free throw from DiMagno made it a one possession game, 34-32, with 13:58 to play.

Cornell got within one-point, 39-38, on a layup from Munson at the 11:09 mark, but a trey from Catherine Lewis restored a four-point advantage to the home team. The Big Red cut the lead to two points once more with just over nine minutes to play, but Colgate put together an 18-3 scoring run to take the insurmountable 61-43 lead with just under three minutes to play.

The Big Red closed out the game on a 9-4 run with Flynn scoring the final five points of the game to account for the 65-52 final.

Cornell will return to action on Sunday, Dec. 19 as it welcomes Canisius to Newman Arena at 2 p.m.
