HANOVER, N.H. – The Big Red women's basketball team led by as many as 15 points, but Dartmouth used a 19-4 run to close the first and open the second half en route to a 59-51 victory this evening at Leede Arena in Hanover, N.H.

Maka Anyanwu came off the bench to register career highs with 21 points and seven rebounds, while Stephanie Long chipped in 10 points, six rebounds and two assists. Clare Fitzpatrick struggled with foul trouble, but managed to grab a team-high nine rebounds and Taylor Flynn added nine points.

Cornell (5-19, 2-8) shot just 30 percent for the game and 11 percent from 3-point range, while Dartmouth finished at 36 percent overall but 41 percent from beyond the arc.

The Big Red went into the intermission with a seven-board edge, but Dartmouth stormed back and outrebounded Cornell for the game, 45-40.

Dartmouth (7-16, 3-6) turned the ball over 10 times, while the Big Red turned it over just seven times.

The Big Red struggled in the opening moments of the game but Dartmouth was unable to capitalize, taking just a three-point lead at the 15:51 mark. Cornell finally came alive on the offensive end, scoring nine unanswered points, including seven from Anyanwu, to go up, 12-5 with 9:45 to play in the first half.

A layup by Zelinger ended the Big Green drought, but Cornell responded with six straight, with four coming from Flynn, to open wrap up a 16-2 run and take an 18-7 lead.

The Big Red eventually extended its lead to 15 points on an elbow jumper from Flynn but the home team scored the final seven points of the half and Cornell went into the intermission with a 26-18 lead.

Dartmouth carried the momentum into the second half with Meghan McFee hitting a trey in the opening moments to spark a 12-4 run as the Big Green knotted the game at 30-30 with 16:37 to play.

A hard-fought layup by Anyanwu returned the lead to the Big Red but four straight points by Steen gave the two-point lead back to the Big Green. Long tied the game at 34-34 with a jumper from the top of the key, but a pair of free throws from Ross and a 3-pointer from Zelinger gave Dartmouth its largest lead of the game to that point, 39-34, at the 11:29 mark.

The Big Green eventually extended its lead to as many as eight points, but a traditional three-point play by Anyanwu and a layup from Shelby Lyman and a midrange baseline jumper from Anyanwu cut the Dartmouth lead to just one-point, 44-43.

Once again, Steen took over and scored five straight for the home team to make it a six-point game with seven minutes to play. Moments later, Dartmouth pushed its lead back to eight points, but both teams turned up the defensive pressure which resulted in more than four minutes of scoreless basketball before a driving layup by Long made it a 53-47 game with 1:10 to play.

The Big Red began to foul, but Dartmouth managed to hit its shots before a pair of made free throws by Anyanwu with 14 seconds to play accounted for the 59-51 final.

Cornell plays its final home games of the season next weekend and says goodbye to its lone senior Susie Doyle as it plays host to Princeton and Penn on Feb. 25 and Feb. 26, respectively. Both games are slated to tip-off at 7 p.m. The game against the Tigers will be Cornell's Pink Zone game, while the contest against the Quakers will be part of National Girls and Women in Sports Day.
