ITHACA, N.Y. — What Saturday night's men's hockey game lacked in goal-scoring was more than made up for with excitement, but Cornell and Dartmouth ended up with a 1-1 tie in a clash of nationally ranked teams.

Junior goalie Andy Iles made 26 saves, and Dustin Mowrey scored the lone goal for Cornell (3-3-2, 1-3-2 ECAC Hockey) with 10:19 remaining in the third period.

It took nearly 50 minutes to break a scoreless tie as the Big Red traded punches with Dartmouth (5-1-2, 4-1-1 ECAC Hockey), which was the nation's last unbeaten team before Friday's 5-4 setback at Colgate.

Brian Ferlin set up Mowrey after using his body to get leverage on a defender behind the net before sliding a pass through a Big Green defender and onto the tape of Mowrey. The junior forward fired it past the blocker side of Dartmouth goalie Charles Grant.

After the goal, the Big Green comeback was on, as nearly half of its shots on the night came in the third period. One of Dartmouth's biggest chances came with four and a half minutes left, when the Big Red was charged with a slashing call. The momentum from the minor would swing in Cornell's favor though, as the penalty kill was highlighted by a Joel Lowry breakaway opportunity, which was stopped by Grant.

With just 63 seconds left to play, the Big Green pulled Grant to get an extra skater. It only took 18 seconds for Dartmouth to convert, as a Mike Keenan point shot found its way through a mess of bodies and past Iles, sending the game to overtime.

In the extra session, the Big Red had the lion's share of the chances, as they outshot Dartmouth by a 7-2 margin. The biggest opportunity came when Ferlin fed Mowrey in front once again, but this time Grant was up to the task, as he made sure the game ended even at one.

Iles was spectacular all night, but his biggest stops came with a Cornell penalty winding down late in the second period, as he made a handful of amazing saves to keep the game scoreless.

The much anticipated Frozen Apple game against Michigan is next on the schedule for the Big Red. Madison Square Garden will be the location for that affair next Saturday night.
