NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The women's tennis team defeated Fairleigh Dickinson, 3-0, on Sunday to finish in seventh place at the ECAC Indoor Championships.

The Big Red improved to 5-2 on the season after dropping its first two matches of the tournament by matching 5-2 scores against Princeton and Columbia on Friday and Saturday, respectively.

Against 43rd-ranked Princeton, junior Sarah O'Neil topped the Tigers' Hilary Bartlett, 6-2, 6-4, at the No. 1 single spot for Cornell. Bartlett is the 84th-ranked singles player in the country. The Big Red's other point came at the No. 3 spot, where sophomore Ryann Young after Princeton's Rachel Saiontz retired in the first set of their match. The Tigers are the tournament's third seed, while Cornell has the sixth seed.

Young then gave the Big Red one of its points on Saturday morning in a consolation semifinal against seventh-seeded Columbia. Young won an abbreviated three-set match against Ioana Alecsiu to improve to 6-0 on the season. Freshman Rosemary Li defeated Chelsea Davis, 7-6(3), 6-3, at the No. 6 spot. Li also teamed with classmate Sara Perelman to win the No. 3 doubles match, 8-3, before the Lions rallied to take the opening point.

The seventh-place match against Fairleigh Dickinson featured four singles matches and one doubles match. The doubles team of Li and Perelman gave the Big Red the match's opening point, then singles victories from junior Christine Ordway (No. 2) and Young (No. 3) clinched the match.

Cornell returns to action Sunday, Feb. 26 against visiting Binghamton before another non-league home match against Army on Wednesday, Feb. 29.
