ITHACA, N.Y. – The women's tennis team stormed by Binghamton on Sunday, 6-1, to win its second straight match. Junior
Christine Ordway, and freshmen
Gabby Sullivan,
Sara Perelman and
Rosemary Li each won both of their respective singles and doubles matches.
The Big Red started off the match by sweeping the three doubles matches. Perelman and Li won their clash at No. 3, 8-4, to improve to 8-0 on the season. Freshman
Courtney Malinchak made her debut in scoring matches, pairing with Sullivan at No. 2 for an 8-6 victory. The No. 1 pairing of Ordway and classmate
Sarah O'Neil, which is ranked ninth in the Northeast Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, won their match at No. 1 in a tiebreaker.
Ordway (No. 2) and Perelman (No. 5) then cruised to singles victories without dropping a game. Li (No. 6) only lost one game in her straight-set win. Sophomore
Ryann Young improved to 8-0 on the season with a 6-2, 6-0 triumph at No. 3. Sullivan (No. 4) took the first set of her match in a tiebreaker before wrapping up the tilt in the second set.
Jillian Santos earned the lone point for Binghamton (3-5) with a three-set victory at No. 1.
Up next for the Big Red will be a mid-week match against Army, which is slated for 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Reis Tennis Center.
