BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Virginia Tech used a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the seventh inning in game two to complete a doubleheader sweep of Cornell on Tuesday evening at Tech Softball Park. The Hokie tooks game one 6-2, then rallied from a 4-0 deficit for an 8-0 win in game two. Cornell slipped to 6-8, while Virginia Tech improved to 20-12.

Betty Rose hit a one-out grand slam in the seventh to end a second game that saw Cornell virtually lead from the beginning. Jenny Edwards hit a three-run homer in the third inning and drove in all four runs, but that wasn't enough as the home team closed the deficit with two in the sixth and then two mor ein the seventh to knot the game up before hitting the game winner.

Erica Gaeta had a base hit and a walk to reach base safely twice, while Alyson Onyon went the distance and struck out five in picking up the loss in the circle.

In game one, Virginia Tech struck for three runs in the second and fifth innings and held off a late Cornell rally for a 6-2 victory in softball action on Tuesday afternoon. The Hokies improved to 19-12, while the Big Red slipped to 6-7. The first game was delayed more than an hour due to lightning, causing the second game to be delayed.

Morgan Cawley was 2-for-3 as the Big Red scratched out six hits and struck out just once against Virginia Tech pitching. Jenna Stoller surrendered all six runs (five earned) and struck out four in 4.1 innings of work in the circle, while Brittany Sutton and Sammy Roth scattered two hits in the final 1.2 innings.

The Hokies scored three runs in the second and three more in the fifth in picking up the victory. The home team put together runs with three singles, a sacrifice bunt, a fielder's choice and a sacrifice fly.

The game featured a lightnight delay of about an hour before the contest resumed with the Big Red scoring two runs in the top of the seventh. Clare Feely's RBI single plated on run and a Virginia Tech fielding error scored the second. A pair of infield pop-ups ended the rally.

Cornell heads to Liberty on Thursday at 2 p.m. for a doubleheader.
