ITHACA, N.Y. — The men's hockey team had a dominating edge in offensive opportunites, but came up short in the one area of the statistics that ultimately matters on Saturday night in a 1-0 loss to Princeton at sold-out Lynah Rink.

Cornell (8-13-2, 4-10-2 ECAC Hockey) heavily outshot Princeton (9-10-4, 7-6-3 ECAC Hockey), but goalie Mike Condon was the story of the game with a 39-save shutout. Andrew Ammon had the lone tally of the evening as his shot from the left faceoff circle rang of the far post and in behind Cornell goalie Andy Iles 51 seconds into the second period.

After the Ammon strike, it was all Cornell. The Big Red would rack up 16 shots on goal in the period, but still couldn't solve Condon. One opportunity saw Dustin Mowrey feed Joel Lowry right in front of the net, but a sprawling Condon was able to make the stop. On another chance, Joakim Ryan was set up in the slot, only to see his shot riccochet off the post. And the one that will haunt fans at Lynah Rink was when John McCarron deked around the goalie and slid a puck toward the vacated net – only to have the stick of a Princeton defenseman swipe the puck off the goal line.

The Big Red controlled play for the entire third period and didn't allow a single shot on goal, while firing nine on Condon. There was a multitude of fantastic chances for Cornell in the final period, including many mad scrambles in front of Condon.

With a Cornell skater in the penalty box with less than two minutes to go, the Big Red pulled Iles to put the sides at even strength. With Iles pulled, the Big Red would muster a few huge chances, but the puck never found the twine.

Cornell will hit the road for its next action, traveling Friday to Dartmouth before another Ivy League showdown the following night at Saturday.
