No. 14 Women's Lacrosse Pulls Away From Columbia in 14-7 Win

Box Score NEW YORK – The Big Red women's lacrosse team kept its offense humming and played a solid game on defense as well, remaining undefeated with a 14-7 win at Columbia on Saturday afternoon.
 
No. 14 Cornell (4-0, 2-0 Ivy League) got a four-goal game from sophomore Lindsay Toppe and two goals each from Emily Tripodi, Amanda D'Amico and Kelly Lang. Sarah Hefner, Rachel Moody and Caroline Salisbury also had multi-point days, and Courtney Gallagher picked up her fourth win of the year in goal by making nine saves.
 
Columbia (1-3, 0-2) trailed 3-0 early but tied the game at 3-3. After that, Cornell scored 11 of the next 14 goals to double up the home team.
 
The Big Red went on a run of 4-0 spanning the end of the first half and the start of the second to extend its lead to 7-3, getting goals from Salisbury, Tripodi and two from Toppe. At halftime, Cornell led 7-5, but two quick goals by MacManus and Moody made it 9-5 early in the second half.
 
With the Lions threatening at 9-6, Cornell got the next three goals of the contest from Lang, Lang again and Toppe to seal the victory.
 
The Big Red returns home when it plays No. 7 Penn State on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
