ITHACA, N.Y. – The men's tennis team started a busy weekend at Reis Tennis Center with a convincing 4-0 victory over Radford. Juniors
Alex Sidney and
Quoc-Daniel Nguyen, and sophomore
Stefan Vinti all won both singles and doubles matches for Cornell (2-1).
The Big Red started off by winning the doubles point for the first time this season. Sidney teamed with freshman
Bernardo Casares Rosa to win the No. 2 match, 6-2, then Nguyen and Vinti outlasted their competition at No. 3, 6-5, to give the home side a 1-0 lead.
Cornell, ranked 62
nd in the country by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, then closed out the match by winning the first three singles matches to be completed. Vinti, a sophomore transfer from Mississippi State, won his first decision for the Big Red, 6-1, 6-3, over Nick Sayer at the No. 1 position. Sidney topped Janken Thoen, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 4, and Nguyen breezed by of Aymeric Autones, 6-2, 6-1, at the No. 6 position.
The Big Red is back in action at 8 a.m. Sunday, when it plays host to Georgia State at Reis Tennis Center.
