ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cornell sailing team had sailors at three of weekend regattas, finishing fourth among 13 teams at the Tom Curtis Memorial Regatta at Georgetown, ninth of 18 at the Navy Fall Women's Regatta and an impressive third of 14 at the David Lee Arnoff/ Hobart William Smith Fall Interconference.

Kicking off the fall break weekend, Cornell sent four sailors to the Tom Curtis Memorial Regatta at Georgetown. Sophomore Daniel Birmingham and senior Sonia Guior sailed A fleet, while senior Colin Keil and sophomore Perry Goodman sailed B fleet. Racing began early on Saturday with breeze around eight knots. Conditions were very shifty throughout the day, making the shifts and pressure changes the most important part of the races. The Big Red sailed well at the top of both fleets until the conclusion of racing around five, when the breeze shut off. Racing resumed on Sunday with light shifty wind around four knots. Patience with the shifts and pressure turned out to be the most important takeaway from the weekend. Cornell finished in fourth after racing was cut short by the breeze dropping off around one, only seven points out from second.

The sailors arrived on Saturday morning to rain and very little wind from the northeast with a decent amount of current. After attempting to start racing off of Triton Point, the wind filled more consistently from the north and the course was moved into the Severn River. All three divisions were sailed on the same trapezoid course, A division in 420s, B division in FJs, and C division in Lasers. Nine races were completed per division before the wind became too light to overcome the current. Sunday morning brought clear skies and breeze at around 10 knots. The wind slowly died throughout the day and each division sailed 6 races on a trapezoid off Triton Point. A division switched into FJs while B division took 420s for Sunday. Racing was completed when the wind became extremely light. A Division was sailed by senior Jenny Borshoff and sophomores Rebecca Mount and Lindsay Gimple. Sailing B division was junior Quinn Howes and sophomores Lindsay Gimple and Rebecca Mount. Freshman Gillian Boehringer sailed C division.

A group of seven sailors travelled to the top of Seneca Lake to compete in the Hobart and William Smith Fall Regatta. Sailing in A Division was senior Duncan Howes with freshman Tara Bergstrom. Sailing in B Division was freshman Clayton Sasaki, senior Alex Gatto and freshman Connor Juckiness. The wind was a moderate 5-10 knots all day on Saturday coming from the northwest. The bluff on the west edge of the lake behind the boathouse made for some very puffy and variable conditions. The team sat in sixth at the end of racing on Saturday with six races in each fleet. The breeze on Sunday started out light but consistent and A sailed two solid races. However, a dying breeze held B fleet to only one race. After sitting on the dock and watching patches of wind fill and disappear, racing was finally cancelled around 2:00 p.m. with Cornell in fourth. Also traveling with the team were sophomore Sam Webster and freshman Natalie Hoppe
