ITHACA, N.Y. – The women's tennis team earned its first sweep of the season, handing Akron a 7-0 loss on Saturday at Reis Tennis Center. It was the third consecutive victory for Cornell, which improved to 5-3.
 
The Big Red started off with a forfeit victory at No. 3 doubles, then clinched the match's opening point with an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles from the tandem of junior Lauren Frazier and senior Shannon Comolli.
 
Cornell also got a forfeit victory at No. 6 singles before cruising to victories in the five remaining matches. The Big Red won all of them in straight sets, dropping no more than four combined games in any of them.
 
Comolli was first to finish up with a 6-3, 6-0 win at the No. 5 spot. Tanenbaum then clinched the match for the home side with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at the top position. Frazier dropped the fewest games with her 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 4, followed by D'Ascenzo's 6-3, 6-1 victory at the No. 2 position. Cusick closed out play with a 6-3, 6-1 triumph at No. 3.
 
Akron fell to 9-5 with the loss.
 
The Big Red is back in action at home next weekend, taking on Binghamton at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 22 at Reis Tennis Center.
