Women's Tennis Continues To Dominate at Cornell Fall Invitational

ITHACA, N.Y. — There will be several all-Big Red finals at The Cornell Fall Invitational, following another successful day for the host squad Saturday at Reis Tennis Center. Cornell will be the only team represented in 'A' singles, 'B' singles and 'A' doubles when action concludes Sunday.
 
* 'A' singles: Top-seeded junior Dena Tanenbaum breezed past her opponents in her first two singles matches of the season. She topped Albany's Alba Sala, 6-3, 6-1, in the quarterfinals, then cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 victory against Buffalo's Margarita Kotok in the semifinals. ... In the other half of the bracket, third-seeded sophomore Marika Cusick also got off to a strong start with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph over Binghamton's Alexis Tashiro. She then rallied to topple second-seeded Tanja Stojanovska of Buffalo, 4-6, 6-1, (10-4) in the semifinals. Cusick and Tanenbaum will tangle in the championship match at 10:15 a.m. Sunday. ... Freshman Priyanka Shah was the Big Red's other entry in the bracket, but she was eliminated by Stojanovska in the semifinals, 6-3, 6-1.
 
* 'B' singles: All three of the Big Red's freshman entries advanced to the semifinals, with Alyssa Boey and Lizzie Stewart surviving super tiebreakers to set up a championship match at 10:15 a.m. Sunday. ... Boey, the bracket's top seed, defeated Buffalo's Laura Holterbosch in the quarterfinals, 6-2, 6-3. She then outlasted Binghamton's Annie DiMuro in the semifinals, 6-2, 4-6, (10-8). ... Stewart, the bracket's second seed, left no doubt about the victor of her first collegiate match to the tune of a 6-1, 6-0 win against Niagara's Maria Ortiz in the quarterfinals. Stewart then eliminated classmate Madison Stevens in the semis, 6-4, 5-7, (10-6). ... Stevens upset third-seeded Sara Kohtz, from Binghamton, in the quarterfinals, 6-3, 2-6, (10-7).
 
* 'C' singles: Sophomore Kristin Quill advanced to the semifinals with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Binghamton's Missy Edelblum. Quill was then eliminated with a 6-0, 7-6(3) loss in the semifinals to second-seeded Dayana Agasieva of Buffalo. ... Freshman Allegra Hanlon withdrew from the competition before her quarterfinal matchup with Buffalo's Christine Haraldson.
 
* 'A' doubles: Boey and Stewart defeated Buffalo's Agasieva and Laura Fernandez, 8-2, to earn a championship date with Shah and Tanenbaum. The latter Big Red duo won 8-5 against Buffalo's Kotok and Stojanovska. The title match is slated for 9 a.m. Sunday.
 
* 'B' doubles: Cusick and Quill moved into the championship via walkover. They will face Binghamton's DiMuro and Olga Ostrovetsky in the final at 9 a.m. Sunday, after the Bearcats' tandem topped Cornell's Hanlon and Stevens, 8-7(3), in the other semifinal.
