WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The women's squash team debuted with a pair of 9-0 victories on Saturday against Middlebury and the host school at the Williams Round Robin, held at Simon Squash Center.
 
Cornell, which won seven of its 10 matches a season ago by identical 9-0 scores, picked up where it left off in easily defending its No. 6 national ranking. Sophomores Michèle Garceau (No. 1) and Margaux Losty (No. 3), senior co-captain Olivia Wherry (No. 7) and freshmans Nghi Nguyen (Nos. 8 and 9) each won their respective matches in three sets.
 
Freshmen Lauren Leizman (No. 8 vs. Middlebury) and Hannah Scherl (No. 9 vs. Middlebury) also cruised to three-set victories in their collegiate debuts, and none of the day's scoring matches went past four sets.
 
The Big Red will remain idle for the rest of the fall semester and through the holiday break before a three-match road trip Jan. 9-11 at Yale, Brown and Trinity.
