WINTER HAVEN, Fla — Senior pitcher
Eric Upton worked five innings of scoreless relief, but the baseball team eventually yielded the winning run to LIU-Brooklyn in the bottom of the 12th inning of Friday's 5-4 game at Chain of the Lakes Park. The game is the Big Red's first at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.

Trey Baur had two hits apiece for Cornell (1-6), which scored all of its runs by batting around in the top of the second inning to take a 4-1 lead. Senior
Ryan Karl led off with a base hit to right, later coming around to score on Tatum's single. Bases-loaded walks by seniors
Dan Morris and
Spencer Scorza spelled the end of the day for the Blackbirds' starter. The free passes bookended what should have been an inning-ending groundout that kept the threat alive when the shortstop's throw was off target.
Senior starter
Kellen Urbon completed six innings for the Big Red, with LIU-Brooklyn (6-4) tying the game by plating single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. Cornell stranded runners in scoring position five times from the fifth inning on. Freshman
Justin Lewis suffered the loss when the Ravers scored the winning run on a groundout with the bases loaded. It was the fifth one-run loss of the early stages in the season for the Big Red.
