LAKELAND, Fla. — The baseball team jumped out to a two-run lead in the first inning, but was ultimately silenced by Huntington's long reliever in a 7-2 loss Sunday at Henley Field Ball Park. It was the Big Red's final game of the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational this weekend.

Junior Jordan Winawer led off the first with a base hit, then came around to score on senior Ryan Karl's double to right-center. Senior Spencer Scorza followed with a single up the left-field line, which plated Karl and gave Cornell a 2-0 lead. Senior Nick Busto was working on a no-hitter with two outs in the fifth inning before the Foresters broke through for a three-run rally to take the lead. Freshman Justin Lewis worked two innings of scoreless relief to keep the Big Red within striking distance, fanning five, but Huntington scored four more runs in the eighth inning to pull away.

After chasing Huntington's starter after three innings, Cornell couldn't muster much against winning pitcher Tanner Wyse. He surrendered just one hit and one walk while striking out seven over the final six innings, and he set down the final 10 Big Red batters in order. Senior Matt Hall and sophomore Jacob Weston accounted for the Big Red's fourth and fifth hits.

Cornell (2-8) is next in action when it's scheduled to play its first games north of the Mason-Dixon Line this season, coming in the form of two doubleheaders March 21-22 at Bucknell.
