David Volfson won singles matches, but the 47th-ranked men's tennis team was handed a 4-2 loss by No. 64 Iowa on Sunday in the final day of the Big Ten/Ivy Challenge.
Iowa (2-1) took the early lead by winning the first two doubles matches to be completed by matching 6-3 margins. Four of the five singles matches to be played to completion were decided in straight sets, including Vinti's 6-4, 6-3 victory at the No. 5 position. Volfson won at the No. 1 spot for a second straight day, topping the Hawkeyes' Dominic Patrick, 7-5, 6-1.
Cornell returns home for a pair of non-league matches next weekend at Reis Tennis Center in Ithaca, N.Y. The Big Red hosts 56th-ranked Rice at 3 p.m. Friday and 21st-ranked Northwestern at 11 a.m. Sunday.
