THE MATCHUP: The Big Red plays its final non-conference game of the season when it welcomes Delaware State to Newman Arena on Wednesday, Jan. 6 at 7 p.m. Cornell is an impressive 5-1 in home games this season and needs just one victory to secure a winning non-conference record for the fourth straight season. Delaware State enters the game with a 3-9 record and has yet to win a road game this season (0-5).

THE SERIES VS. DELAWARE STATE: Cornell played the Hornets three times in the early 1990s, losing the first meeting in 1991, before taking back-to-back victories in 1992 (64-58) and 1993 (70-56).

LAST TIME VS. THE HORNETS:  The Big Red jumped out to a 38-27 halftime lead and never looked back en route to a 70-56 victory over Delaware State in Alberding Field House on Jan. 20, 1993. With the win, Cornell improved to 6-6 on the year, while the Hornets slipped to 4-9 overall. Keri Farley led the Big Red with 17 points, while Marie Watson posted a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. DSU's Monique Collier led all scorers with 28 points and Jackie Campbell chipped in 14 points to go along with 13 rebounds. The Big Red held the commanding 38-21 advantage on the boards and shot an impressive .446 percent from the floor (25-56), while going .500 from 3-point range (4-8). The Hornets connected on .354 overall (23-65) and hit just .167 percent from beyond the arc (3-18).  Both teams struggled handling the ball with Cornell posting 24 turnovers to the DSU's 22 miscues.

CORNELL VS. THE MEAC: Cornell has a 9-7 all-time record against the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, including a mark of 2-1 against Delaware State. The Big Red has faced Bethune-Cookman (0-1), Coppin State (2-3), Howard (2-1), Maryland Eastern-Shore (1-0), and Morgan State (2-1), while never having met Florida A&M, Hampton, Howard, Norfolk State, North Carolina A&T, North Carolina Central, Savannah State and South Carolina State. Coach Smith is 5-4 all-time against MEAC teams.

WINNING NON-CONFERENCE SLATE: With a 7-6 record and just one non-conference games to go, the Big Red has the potential to post a winning non-conference record for the fourth straight season, a feat that has never been accomplished in Cornell women's basketball history.

A CORNELL WIN WOULD:
• be the third straight vs. the Hornets and improve the Big Red to 3-1 in the series.
• improve the Big Red to 8-6 on the season and 6-1 in Newman Arena.
• guarantee the team a winning non-conference record for the fourth consecutive season.
• improve Cornell to 10-7 all-time vs. the current members of the MEAC and make head coach Dayna Smith 6-4 vs. the conference.

LOW PERCENTAGE SHOTS: So far this season, Cornell has held 7-of-12 opponents (58 percent) to below 40 percent shooting from the floor. Since the beginning of the 2012-13 season, the Big Red has held 51 of its 95 opponents (54 percent) to below 40 percent.

HANDLE WITH CARE: The Big Red is second in the Ivy League and 31st in the nation in turnovers per game (13.6) … Cornell is also fourth in the conference and 125th in the nation in turnover margin (1.69).

I'LL TAKE THAT: The Big Red is averaging 7.8 steals per game.

RACE TO 1,000: Nia Marshall reached the 1,000-point plateau in her 68th career game, faster than any Cornell player other than Karen Walker '91, the leading scorer in Big Red history, who scored her 1,000th point in her 65th career game.

SURE SHOT: Nia Marshall knocked down 15-of-16 attempts vs. Binghamton on Dec. 30, 2015, tying the school record for field goals made in a single game, and also finishing tied for 10th all-time in NCAA history for the highest single game shooting percentage (.938).

30-POINT PERFORMANCES:
• With a 31-point performance vs. Binghamton on Dec. 30, 2015, Nia Marshall became the first player in Cornell women's basketball history to register at least 30 points four times in a career.

• Her career-high 36 points came in Cornell's double overtime victory against Vermont on Dec. 30.
• Marshall's first career 30-point game, coming vs. Robert Morris on Dec. 20, made her the first Big Red player to reach the 30-point plateau since Do Stevens in 2001.
• Marshall is the only player in Coach Smith's tenure to score 30+ points in a game.
• Only three women's basketball players in Cornell history have had at least three 30 point games in their career, with Marshall joining Keri Farley and Karen Walker.
• Only once before has Cornell had two 30-point games in the same season, previously done by Karin Dwyer (Jan. 21, 1984 vs. Yale; Feb. 24, 1984).

CAMPBELL CAN: Senior Maddie Campbell earned her first career double-double with 13 points and a career-high 10 rebounds in the Big Red's 70-62 victory over Bryant. At the time, she was the only current player on the team other than Nia Marshall (10) and Nicholle Aston (7) to post a double-double and the first to do it in the 2015-16 season … In her second full season with the Big Red, the UCSB transfer is having her best season to date, averaging 6.8 points and a team-high 7.2 rebounds per game.

COACHING TENURE: Head coach Dayna Smith, in her 14th season at the helm of the Big Red program, ranks third overall in Ivy League women's basketball history in years served as a head coach in the conference. Only one active coach, Harvard's Kathy Delaney-Smith (34th season), ranks ahead of Cornell's Smith.

CLOSE CALLS: Since the beginning of the 2010-11 season, the Big Red has had 55-of-149 games (36 percent) decided by eight points or fewer. In those games, Cornell has posted a 27-28 record (.490).

100 WINS AND COUNTING: Head Coach Dayna Smith is already the winningest coach in Cornell history, and she reached the 100-win mark for her career with the team's victory over Manhattan on Nov. 20, 2012. She has since added to that and has 146 career coaching wins.

STARTING STREAK: Junior Nia Marshall has the longest starting streak on the team, standing at 43 games. Marshall had started every game of her freshman season, with the exception of the Big Red's Senior Day on March 1, 2014.

UP NEXT: The Big Red opens conference play when it travels to New York City to take on Columbia on Saturday, Jan. 16 at 4:30 p.m. The game is part of a double-header with the men's basketball team, which will take on the Lions in the nightcap at 7 p.m.
