ABOUT DARTMOUTHWith its 2-1 loss to Rensselaer last weekend, the Big Green has been officially eliminated from contention for the ECAC Hockey Tournament. Dartmouth had a strong start to the season, beating Harvard and tying Clarkson, but the Big Green fell into a 15-game winless streak spanning over two months. Dartmouth is just 2-9-2 on the road, with its away wins coming to the league's last two teams. Its special teams have been superb though, as the Dartmouth holds the top in-conference power play at 27.4 percent and the nation's 11
th-best penalty kill at 87.1 percent overall. Senior captain Laura Stacey has been a bright spot for the Big Green, leading the way with 23 points (10-13). Junior Robyn Chemago has seen most of the work between the pipes, posting a .917 save and 2.35 goals-against average.
Â
THE SERIES VS. DARTMOUTHLaura Stacey got the Big Green on the board just 30 seconds into the game on Jan. 9 in Hanover, but Cornell answered with two first period goals. Stacey knotted the score at two, but junior
Kaitlin Doering netted a shorthanded goal with 16 seconds left in the second to regain the lead. The Big Red added two more in the third to take a 5-3 win, with freshman
Christian Higham scoring two goals, junior
Brianna Veerman recording three assists and sophomore
Erin O'Connor and freshman
Micah Hart each posting a pair of helpers. The Cornell victory narrowed the Big Green's all-time series advantage to 42-31-7 dating back to the 1970s. The sides split the season series in 2014-15, with each winning on the other's home ice. Goals from
Jess Brown and
Sydney Smith lifted Cornell to a 2-1 win on Jan. 23, 2014 before Dartmouth squeaked by with a 3-2 win on Feb. 14, 2014 behind 44 saves from Robyn Chemago. The loss snapped the Big Red's six-game unbeaten streak against the Big Green.
Â
ABOUT HARVARD The Crimson fell out of the national polls in mid-January after dropping games to St. Lawrence and Clarkson. Since then, Harvard has lost to No. 1/1 Boston College twice—though by two very different scores: 2-0 and then 8-0 in the Beanpot semifinal. The Crimson beat travel partner Dartmouth, 2-0, and posted a convincing 4-1 win over Princeton, while holding No. 4/4 Quinnipiac to a single goal in a 1-0 loss. In the Beanpot consolation game, Harvard rallied to beat Boston University, 5-3. The Crimson also has recently tied Brown and Rensselaer. Senior Miye D'Oench continues to lead the team in points with 32 on 13 goals and 19 assists, while junior Sydney Daniels leads in goals with 15. Senior goaltender Emercance Maschmeyer has remained solid in net, posting a .944 save percentage and 1.71 goals-against average.
Â
THE SERIES VS. HARVARDThe Crimson blanked the Big Red, 2-0, behind a goal and an assist from Lexie Laing and 23 saves from Emerance Maschmeyer on the first ECAC Hockey weekend of 2016. Harvard's win pushed its all-time advantage over Cornell to 56-26-4, including four consecutive Crimson victories. Cornell's last win over Harvard came in the 2014 ECAC Hockey Semifinal when the Big Red defeated the Crimson 6-4 en route to a conference championship.
