ALFRED, N.Y. — Cornell equestrian clinched the regular season Regional Championship, finishing as the High Point Team at Alfred on Saturday.
Junior
Claira Seely rode well for a first-place finish in Intermediate Fences, while junior
Marissa Rice and freshman
Vaughan Shanley each earned first in Intermediate Flat. Junior
Gabrielle Rutkauskas added a win in her round of Novice Flat, while senior
Susan Rhodes and freshman
Emily Selland both finished second in the event and freshman
Nikki Falkenberg placed third. Rhodes also added a third-place finish in Novice Fences and pointed up into Intermediate Flat and Intermediate Fences. Junior
Anne Case took first in Advanced Walk Trot Canter, with sophomore
Sanjana Sundaram placing second, senior
Amanda Symons finishing third and freshman
Emma Mayer claiming sixth. Freshman
Madeline Kinnear earned first in her debut in Walk Trot. Junior
Cecilia Cascella, also riding in her first show for the Big Red, placed fifth in Walk Trot. Freshman Laura Vazquez-Bolanos added another first-place ride in Walk Trot.
In Open Fences, senior
Meridith Meyer placed second, while Gabby Stephenson, senior
Libby Drake and junior
Carlee Roberts all took fourth-place finishes in the event. Stephenson qualified for Regionals in the event. Senior
Reina Baizan placed fourth in Intermediate Fences. Junior
Amanda Ko and Meyer took second and third in Open Flat, and senior
Katie Smith and Drake both rode for fifth place. Roberts and senior
Katrina Donahue also went 2-3 in Intermediate Flat. Donahue and sophomore
Megan He each took fifth-place finishes in Novice Fences, while Falkenberg earned second in the event in her debut. Donahue has qualified for Regionals in Intermediate Flat and Novice Fences, pointing up into Open Flat and Intermediate Fences.
The Big Red will have nearly a month to prepare for Regionals, which will be held at Alfred on March 26.
