ITHACA, N.Y. — The women's squash team defeated William Smith, 8-0, on Sunday afternoon at Belkin International Squash Courts after suffering a loss to defending national champion Harvard earlier in the day by the same score. The results leave Cornell 8-5 overall and 2-3 in Ivy League play entering the final weekend of its regular season.
 
The Big Red, which entered the weekend ranked eighth in the country by the College Squash Association entering the weekend and fresh off a convincing victory over 10th-ranked Dartmouth yesterday, was unable to threaten No. 1 Harvard. Only junior Rachel Scherman was able to take a set off her opponent from the No. 2 position.
 
Cornell rested its top two players against 25th-ranked William Smith and won each of the eight contested matches in three sets. Laura Watson made her season debut, cruising to a 11-5, 11-7, 11-2 victory from the No. 8 position.
 
Cornell will play three matches in a stretch of three days in its final action before the CSA national championships. The Big Red travels to Princeton at 5:30 p.m. Friday, then visits Franklin & Marshall at 11 a.m. Saturday. The regular season closes at home, with Cornell hosting Penn at noon Sunday.
