ALBANY, N.Y. -- Freshman Bridgette Rooney launched her fifth home run of the season, but Albany struck early in both games and came away with a sweep on Wednesday afternoon at Albany field. The Great Danes improved to 15-9 with a 9-0 win in five innings, followed by a 5-1 triumph. Cornell fell to 6-13 with the losses.
Game One
Albany scored two in the first and five in the second and that was all its pitching staff would need. Bailey Turner and Caitlin Cooper combined to scatter four hits and two walks and stranded all six baserunners in the shutout.
Jessica Bigbie,
Megan Murray,
Olivia Lam and
Zoe Hernandez each had a hit in the loss. Elizabeth Snow was 3-for-3 with a double and a home run for Albany.
Game Two
A four-run third inning gave the Great Danes the doubleheader sweep. Bridgette Rooney's solo home run in the seventh broke up the shutout, but Cornell was only able to post three hits in the nightcap.
Celeste Verdolivo picked up the win by allowing just one hit over four innings, while Devin Durando allowed just two hits and one run in three innings in the circle. Elizabeth Snow, who was 3-for-3 in the opener, was 2-for-3 with a triple to complete the doubleheader cycle.
