Women's Track And Field Gears Up For NCAA Preliminary

ITHACA, N.Y. — Eight members of the Cornell women's track and field team will be competing in the East Preliminary of the NCAA Division I Track and Field Championships at the University of Kentucky May 25-27.

The student-athletes competing will be doing so in hopes of punching a ticket to the NCAA Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore., June 7-10. The top 48 declared athletes and top 24 declared relays in states east of the Mississippi River (with the exception of Illinois) were accepted into the East Preliminary. The top 48 declared athletes in the western states will compete at the same time at the West Preliminary at the University of Texas.  The top 12 in each event at the two Preliminary Round sites will advance to the NCAA Finals in Eugene to complete the final round field sizes of 24.

Leading the way for Cornell will be senior tri-captain Adrian Jones, who has qualified in the 100 and 200 meter dashes. Jones is seeded 43rd in the 100 (11.55) and 36th in the 200 (23.52). Jones will also be a critical member of the 4x100 meter relay squad, which is seeded 22nd and coming off of a new school record-setting performance of 45.01 at the Ivy League Outdoor Heptagonal Championships. Also on that relay will be sophomore Kat Quigley, freshman Brittany Stenekes and junior Ellen Shepard.

Junior tri-captain Taysia Radoslav will enter the 400 meter hurdles preliminary with the 15th best time at (57.91) while classmate and fellow tri-captain Shannon Hugard will be competing in the 1500 meter run (30, 4:22.11). Sophomore Briar Brumley, seeded 17th, will be running in the 3000 meter steeplechase (10:13.03) and junior Kate Gulbrandsen will be competing in the high jump (48, 5'7.75").
