Volleyball Drops A Pair Of Decisions To Close Non-Conference Play

HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Big Red volleyball team fell in straight sets to its instate rival Colgate, 20-25, 23-25, 17-25, to wrap up non-conference play with a 4-5 record after participating in the Colgate Invitational this weekend at Cotterell Court. Earlier in the afternoon, Cornell dropped a tightly contested battle to Stony Brook, 3-1.

The Big Red had several outstanding individual efforts throughout the weekend and for their efforts, Kit McCarty and Kara Rogers were named to the all-tournament team.

Cornell vs. Colgate
McCarty lead Cornell in kills in all three matches this weekend, including a team-high 10 vs. the Raiders. Emily Wemhoff also finished with 10 kills.

Kiley McPeek, who entered the weekend ranked 13th in the nation in digs per set, registered 18 against Colgate to finish the tournament averaging 5.0 digs per set.

Zoe Chamness and Chelsea Sincox registered 17 and 16 assists, respectively.

Colgate (9-3) hit an incredible .318 for the match, thanks in large part to Amanda Smith and Allie Lowe, who combined for 24 kills and just four errors.

Cornell vs. Stony Brook
Cornell fell in its first match of the day to Invitational champion, Stony Brook, 3-1. The Big Red took the first set, 28-26, but the Seawolves stormed back to win, 25-14, 25-18, 25-22.

Kit McCarty continued to impress, leading the Big Red with 15 kills and a team-high .424 hitting percentage (15-3-37), while Kara Rogers and Emily Wemhoff finished with 10 kills apiece.

Libero Kiley McPeek registered 17 digs to go along with two service aces and Chelsea Sincox and Lily Barber tallied 12 and 11 digs, respectively.

Freshman setter Zoe Chamness finished with 25 assists and 10 digs for her first career double-double and Sincox finished with 18 assists.

Stony Brook ran an incredibly efficient offense, hitting .244 for the match and seeing just one player finish with more than two errors. Invitational MVP Emily Costello posted 14 kills and just two errors on 46 attempts (.261), to go along with 13 digs.
