THE WEEKEND: The Big Red field hockey team welcomes No. 5 Princeton (11-4, 4-1 Ivy) and wraps up the non-conference season against Bryant (3-14, 1-4 MAAC) this weekend at Marsha Dodson Field. Cornell (3-11, 0-5 Ivy) enters the weekend looking to end a three-skid and will take on the Tigers at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27 before facing the Bulldogs the following day at 1 p.m. Live stats for both games will be available at:

* The Make-A-Wish Foundation has an especially personal meaning to the team, and to junior
Maddy Conklin, who was granted a wish in 2010 after being diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis. Since that time, Conklin has dedicated countless hours through volunteering and fundraising to give back to the MAW Foundation so other youth with life threatening illnesses can have their wishes granted. THE SERIES WITH PRINCETON: The Tigers have dominated the series with Cornell from the get-go, winning the first five meetings, beginning with a 4-0 victory in 1978.
* The Big Red's best stretch in the series came from 1983-1990, as Cornell posted a 4-2-2 record, but a 2-1 overtime win by Princeton in 1991 began a 14-game unbeaten streak for the Tigers.
* The streak was snapped with a 4-3 Big Red victory at Princeton in 2007, but the Tigers went on to win the next eight outings, before the Big Red earned the 3-2 win in double overtime in 2016.
* Princeton defeated Cornell last season to up its lead in the series to 31-6-3 all-time.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS: Princeton (11-4, 4-1 Ivy) is coming off its first Ivy loss of the season, falling to No. 9 Harvard, 3-1, last weekend.
* The Tigers lead the Ivy League in penalty corners per game (8.07).
* They are second in the conference in defensive saves (six), assists per game (2.53), goals against average (1.24), goals per game (3.33), points per game (9.20) and scoring margin (2.02).
* MaryKate Neff's five defensive saves are first in the Ivy League and third in the country.
* Hannah Davey's 0.53 assists per contest are second among Ivy players and 26th in the nation.
* Five Tigers (Clara Roth, Sophia Tornetta, Ali McCarthy, Neff and Julianna Tornetta) are among the top 10 in the conference in goals per game with Roth ranking 34th in the country (0.67).
* Princeton has four players (Roth, Tornetta, Tornetta and Neff) among the top 12 in the conference in points per game, with Roth ranking 24th in the nation (1.80).
* Grace Baylis is 11th in the nation in goals against average (1.28), but comes in dead last (76th) in saves per game (1.53) and save percentage (.548).
THE SERIES WITH BRYANT: Cornell and Bryant have met just once, playing the Bulldogs in their inaugural Division I season in 2008. The Big Red won the contest, 9-0.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS: Bryant snapped an eight game losing streak and picked up its first NEC win of the season when it defeated LIU Brooklyn last weekend to improve to 3-14 overall and 1-4 in the conference.
* Leyna DiMarco leads the team with seven points and three goals, while Ally Burdick also has a team-high three goals.
* Both Victoria Newbill and Emily Perryman have registered a team high two assists.
* Marijn Jaarsma has started 15 out of 17 games for Bryant and owns a solid .780 save percentage to go along with a 2.30 goals-against average.
CORNELL VS. THE MAAC: The Big Red is 14-2 all-time vs. the current members of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, thanks mostly to a 6-0 lead against Siena.
* The Big Red also holds a winning record against Bryant (1-0), Monmouth (2-1), Rider (4-1), and Sacred Heart (1-0).
* Cornell has never faced Quinnipiac in field hockey.
* The Big Red has won two in a row vs. the MAAC.

THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME: The Big Red is 54-31 (.635) all-time on Marsha Dodson Field. Collectively, the team has outscored its opponents by a margin of 192-128 and has taken significantly more shots (1,422-887) than its opponents. The defense has been equally solid in the circle, allowing just 452 penalty corners (5.3 per game).
FIRST POINTS: With new faces up and down the lineup, a pair of Big Red –
Claire Jones (one goal) and
Juliana Tardif (one assist) – registered their first career points in a 3-1 win vs. Rider.

Taylor Gladd scored the first goal of her career in the Big Red's 2-0 win over Lehigh.
FRESH START:
Laura Kubit saw her first collegiate minutes when she earned the start vs. Rider. The freshman goalie made two saves to earn the win.
RETURNING ALL-IVY: Cornell had four players named All-Ivy a year ago, with two returning for their junior seasons. Goalie
Maddie Henry was named to the second-team, while midfielder
Maddy Conklin was named honorable mention.
SMARTY PANTS: The Big Red placed 11 student-athletes on the 2017 ZAG Field Hockey/NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad, including
Taylor Gladd who was named a Division I Scholar of Distinction for having achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.90 or higher through the first semester of the 2017-18 academic year.
* Cornell has had at least four players earn the honor in 12 of the past 14 seasons.
* In addition to the individual accolades, the squad earned the NFHCA Collegiate National Academic Team Award for the 10th time since 2004.
FRESH FACE:
Alesha Widdall, a seven-year member of the US Women's Field Hockey Senior National Team, has joined the Big Red staff as an assistant coach for the 2018 season.
* A member of the 2016 US Olympic training team, Widdall helped prepare the US squad that took fifth place overall at the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
* In total, she has won seven medals with Team USA, including gold medals at the 2017 World League Semifinals, the 2014 Champions Challenge, and the 2013 World League Round 2.
KNOCK THREE TIMES: Since the start of the 2004 season, the Big Red is 83-5 in games in which it scores at least three goals, a mark that was raised when it defeated Colgate, 3-1, on Sept. 25.
* The last time Cornell scored three time came up short was a 4-3 overtime loss to No. 13 Harvard on Oct. 14, 2017.
EARLY LEADS: Scoring first has been a big part of the Big Red's success in recent years. Since the 2004 season, Cornell has posted an impressive 114-16 record in games in which they have scored first. Conversely, the team has won only 18 games in which they have had to come back from an early deficit to win. The first was Coach
Donna Hornibrook's very first victory with the team, a 6-3 win over Lehigh in 2004, with the latest coming on Sept. 26, 2018 as Cornell overcame an early 1-0 deficit to defeat Colgate, 3-1.
CLOSE CALLS: Cornell's 2-1 double overtime loss to Lafayette on Oct. 22 continued the Big Red's trend of playing in one-goal games. Since the start of the 2006 season, the Big Red has won 109 games, with 54 coming in one-goal games (.495), including 14 in overtime. During that same span, Cornell has lost 88 games, with 49 of those coming by a single goal (.557), including 21 in overtime.
SHUT OUT STREAK:
* Last season, goalie
Maddie Henry recorded the second-longest shutout streak in Cornell history, standing at 291:09.
* The 291:09 streak, which began during the final game of the 2016 season vs. Dartmouth and ended vs. Penn on Sept. 23, 2017, is second behind only Sue Zieman, who went 349:30 over the final five games of the 1985 season without giving up a goal.
* During her streak, Zieman posted four straight shutouts, two of which went to double overtime, before allowing a goal at the 39:30 mark in a win over Cortland in the season finale.

RECAPPING 2017: Cornell finished the 2017 season with a 10-6 record, giving the program double-digit wins for the fifth straight season and the ninth time in Hornibrook's 14-year tenure. The 10th victory of the season at Dartmouth gave Coach Hornibrook her 300th win as a head coach and also tied the Class of 2018 with the Class of 2011 and 2017 as the winningest class in program history with 42 victories during their four-year career. The program saw several individual records fall in 2017, most notably
Krysten Mayers '18 breaking the school's 34-year old career points record (99), as well as the school mark for career goals (42). Additionally, goalkeeper
Kelly Johnson '18 closed her illustrious career as the Big Red's career wins leader (25). Following the season,
Sam McILwrick '18 was named a unanimous first-team All-Ivy selection. The senior back headlined four Big Red selections, as she was joined by Mayers and sophomore
Maddie Henry on the second-team, while sophomore
Maddy Conklin was named honorable mention. The four Ivy selections were the most for Cornell since having five honorees during the 2014 season. McIlwrick and Mayers went on to be named to the Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I All-Mideast Region team, with McILwrick earning first-team honors and Mayers being named to the second team.
