Ithaca, N.Y. • Newman Arena (4,473)
STORYLINE
• Cornell continues play in the Central New York Hoops Classic when it opens its home schedule against Division III SUNY Canton on Thursday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. at Newman Arena.
• The contest will be broadcast live on ESPN+ with Barry Leonard and Eric Taylor '05 on the call.
• Cornell will have a chance to start a season 2-0 for the first time since the Big Red's 2009-10 Sweet 16 run after kicking off the campaign with an 86-75 win at Binghamton on Tuesday.
• Senior guard Matt Morgan posted career highs of 38 points, 13 rebounds and four steals to climb to No. 2 on the school's career scoring list.
• He was an efficient 10-of-15 from the floor, 5-of-8 from beyond the 3-point arc and 13-of-14 from the free-throw line in the victory.
• A three-time All-Ivy pick, including a first-teamer last spring, Morgan extended his streak of consecutive games in double figures to 52.
• Morgan is one of four returning starters for the Big Red, who went 12-16 in 2017-18 and earned the program's first-ever bid to the Ivy League Men's Basketball Tournament.
• Sophomore forward Jimmy Boeheim also had a breakout game, tallying 20 points and seven rebounds off the bench on 7-of-11 shooting.
• Third-year head coach Brian Earl will look to continue the program's upward swing, as the Big Red made a two-game jump in conference play a year ago.
• Gordon, Julian and Morgan will serve as team tri-captains for 2018-19.
• Cornell has scheduled to challenge itself, as the Big Red will play 30 games, including a total of 13 contests at Newman Arena.
• Visits to Syracuse and Wake Forest of the ACC, Connecticut and SMU of the AAC and an appearance in the first Central New York Hoops Classic highlight the slate.
• Making their home debuts will be seven newcomers, including junior college transfers Chaz Mack and Thurston McCarty
• SUNY Canton was 7-18 a year ago, but just a year removed from a 20-win season, under head coach Ben Thompson.
• The game will count as a regular season game and count for or against Cornell's record, but the contest will be an exhibition game for the Kangaroos.

A WIN OVER SUNY CANTON WOULD
• push Cornell to its first 2-0 start to a season since the 2009-10 season.
• make the Big Red 2-0 in the Central New York Hoop Classic.
• make head coach Brian Earl 3-0 against non-Division I opponents.
• be the team's second straight road win dating back to last year's regular season finale at Dartmouth (86-75).
• be the 1,256th in program history (1,255-1,424 in 118 seasons, .468).

LAST TIME VS. OUT
• Senior Matt Morgan had career highs of 38 points and 13 rebounds and Cornell won its 2018-19 season opener with an 86-75 win at Binghamton on Tuesday, Nov. 6 at the Events Center.
• In the process, Morgan became the school's second all-time leading scorer as the Big Red won the first game of the Central New York Hoops Classic.
• Morgan's 38 points tied for the fourth-highest single-game total in school history and added four steals and three assists while shooting 10-of-15 from the floor, 5-of-8 from beyond the arc and 13-of-14 from the free-throw line.
• He moved past John Bajusz '87 (1,663 points) to climb into second on Cornell's career scoring list and ended the night with 1,684 points.
• Morgan wasn't alone in having a career day for the Big Red - sophomore Jimmy Boeheim had 20 points and seven rebounds as the visitors controlled the backboards (42-32) and outscored the Bearcats 20-6 down the stretch to pull away for the win.
Terrance McBride and Troy Whiteside scored seven points apiece, while Steven Julian had six points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals in the win.
Jake Kuhn also chipped in six points and four rebounds.
• Sam Sessoms had 27 points, five rebounds and four assists for Binghamton, but was also hounded into six turnovers.
• Richard Caldwell, Jr. notched 12 points and J.C. Show scored 11 with four rebounds, three steals and two assists.

THE BIG RED AND IN-SEASON TOURNAMENTS
• Overall, Cornell is 46-102 in tournament play during the regular season.
• The program last won an in-season tournament when it dropped Davidson and St. John's to capture the 2009-10 MSG Holiday Classic.
• The Big Red has also won tournament championships at the 1978-79 and 1967-68 Kodak Classic (both in Rochester, N.Y.) and the 1990-91 USAir-Cornell Classic.
• Cornell was a perfect 4-0 at the Legends Classic in 2009-10, but due to the tournament format, was not considered to be the tournament champion. Florida (4-0) also finished the tournament unbeaten.
• The Big Red won the 2012 Continental Tire Las Vegas Invitational lower bracket with wins over Presbyterian and Longwood.

NEXT UP
• Cornell will play its third game of the Central New York Hoops Classic when Colgate visits Newman Arena on Sunday, Nov. 11 at 1 p.m.
• The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
• The Big Red leads the all-time series 73-56, though the Raiders have won two straight, including last year's 72-61 win in Hamilton, N.Y.
