Ida Farinholt came through in the clutch to give No. 23 women's lacrosse a hard-fought 11-10 win over UMass on Saturday at Tierney Field. With 1:56 left in the second overtime period, fellow senior captain

Despite being down 8-10 in the second period, Cornell forced overtime after scoring two-straight from Caroline Allen and
Joey Coffy with 17:52 and 12:13 left in the game. Overall it was a tale of two halves for both teams as the Big Red found itself leading for the majority of the first half.

Sarah Phillips got on the board first with a goal just 42 seconds into the contest.
Hannah O'Reilly, Reed,
Tomasina Leska and Allen registered the other goals for the squad in the first 30 minutes.
However, the Minutewomen found themselves leading at halftime as they closed out the period with four unanswered goals, ultimately taking the lead, 7-6, with 23 seconds left before heading to the locker room.
Both teams revved up the defense in the second half with only seven total goals being scored in the first 17:47 of the second before both squads were left scoreless for the remainder of regulation.
Coffy struck first in the second to tie it all up at seven, but UMass responded with two goals of its own to retake its lead. Both teams traded off goals before Cornell went on its two-score run to force extra time.
Both Reed and Allen had three points on the day with Reed finding the back of the net twice while notching the assist in the game winner. Allen earned a natural hat trick with a trio of even-handed goals. Farinholt scooped up four ground balls and had two caused turnovers.
Coffy was the top draw controller on the field with eight and
Cait Callahan's strong defense was on display, logging in four caused turnovers.

Goalkeeper Katie McGahan made 10 saves and secured four ground balls in the victory while UMass's Lauren Hiller made 11 stops.

The close score reflected the stats between the two teams with Cornell having the slight 25-24 advantage in ground balls and a 14-12 count in draw controls. With shots being 14-13 in favor of UMass after the first half, the Big Red turned it up a notch to outshoot the opposition 16-7 in the second.

The team returns home to Schoellkopf Field for a Tuesday tilt with Syracuse this Tuesday at 5 p.m.
