Women’s Lacrosse Announces Eight Newcomers

ITHACA, N.Y. – Cornell women's lacrosse head coach Jenny Graap announced the addition of eight new members to the team. Shannon Brazier, Genevieve DeWinter, Reilly Fletcher, Ciara Frawley, Ashleigh Gundy, Natalie Hughes, Jen Rogers and Olivia Tuma will be donning Big Red jerseys this spring.
 
"Coach (Bill) Olin, Coach (Margaret) Corzel and I are excited to welcome Cornell's Class of 2022 to campus," Graap said. "We believe this group brings an impressive collection of strength and talent to our Big Red program. Our newest members will be both challenged and supported as they strive to be the best in the classroom and on the field. They will see examples of hard work, positive attitude and team-first mentality set by their captains and teammates who aspire to be a top team in the Ivy League and in the nation. We want to nurture their passion for lacrosse while channeling their energy toward competing for championships. Our staff looks forward to developing the chemistry and leadership among this class which will be important building blocks of their success."

Shannon Brazier – M – 5-10
(Ward Melville High School) Stony Brook N.Y.

Prior to Cornell
  • Four-year member and three-time letterwinner for the Ward Melville girl's lacrosse program.
  • Played club for the Long Island Top Guns.
  • Received invitation to try out for the U19 national team in 2018.
  • Earned All-American honorable mention honors her senior year, in addition to being named to the All-Long Island Second Team and All-Suffolk County.
  • Mentioned in Newsday's 2018 "Top 100 Girls Lacrosse Players", highlighting Long Island's top lacrosse talent.
  • Suited for Long Island in the 2017 Under Armour All-American Championship as well as for Suffolk County in the 2016 LI All American Lacrosse Nassau vs. Suffolk Game.
  • Was tabbed the Melville Key Player to Watch in 2017 and went on to earn all-county honors.
  • Also was a three-time letterwinner in basketball, which she earned 2018 all-league honors for while serving as a captain.
  • Member of the National Honor Society and was an eight-time New York State Scholar Athlete each winter and spring season from 2015-18.
  • Earned the Ward Melville Fortitude & Courage Award.
 
Genevieve DeWinter – M/A – 5-8
(Greenwich High School) Greenwich, Conn.

Prior to Cornell
  • Played four years of varsity lacrosse at Greenwich High School.
  • Twice earned US Lacrosse All-America honors, First Team All-Connecticut honors and First Team All-Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference (FCIAC) honors in 2017 and 2018.
  • Was the recipient of the MSG Varsity All-Connecticut Player of the Year award in 2017.
  • Named to US Lacrosse's Academic All-American Team in 2017.
  • In 2016 was tabbed to the All-Connecticut and All-FCIAC Second Teams.
  • Was the spring 2018 recipient of the FCIAC Scholar Athlete Award.
  • Also was a standout cross country and indoor track and field star.
  • Earned all-New England and all-FCIAC honors in 2017 and 2018, in addition to earning all-state honors her senior year.
  • Was the 2018 FCIAC, State LL and State Open Champion in the 600-meter race.
  • In 2017, she earned all-America honors and set the Connecticut state record in the 4x800-meter relay.
 
Reilly Fletcher – M – 5-9
(The Lawrenceville School) Newtown, Penn.

Prior to Cornell
  • Spent one year at Boston University as a member of the women's lacrosse team, but used a medical redshirt due to an injury.
  • Four-time letterwinner at the Lawrenceville School and served as team captain her senior year.
  • She was twice named a US Lacrosse All-American and dubbed the Trenton Times Midfielder of the Year in 2016 and 2017.
  • Played club for Ultimate Lacrosse.
  • Earned All-MAPL First Team honors all four years.
  • Guided The Lawrenceville School to four straight Mid-Atlantic Prep League championships and one NJ Prep A title in 2016.
  • Lawrenceville's Best Female Athlete Award recipient as a senior in 2017.
  • Also competed in field hockey and was a captain of the ice hockey team her senior year.
 
Ciara Frawley – M/D – 5-11
(Yorktown High School) Yorktown Heights, N.Y.

Prior to Cornell
  • Played four years of varsity lacrosse at Yorktown High School, where she served as a captain her senior year.
  • Played club for Primetime.
  • Named a 2018 US Lacrosse All-American.
  • Helped lead her team to consecutive regional championships in 2016 and 2017. They advanced to state finals in 2016 and the state semifinals in 2017.
  • Two-time recipient of US Lacrosse All-Academic honors, New York All-Section honors and all-league honors in 2017 and 2018.
  • Dubbed a 2018 Journal News/Lohud First Team All-Star and to the Lower Hudson Valley Elite 11.
  • Was the recipient of Yorktown's Outstanding Female Athlete Award.
  • Also earned all-league honors in soccer and indoor track and field.
  • In addition to serving as a secretary of her school's National Honor Society chapter, she was on the Principal Honor Roll and was a New York State Scholar Athlete all four years of high school.
 
Ashleigh Gundy – A/D – 5-10
(The Shipley School) Southampton, N.Y.

Prior to Cornell
  • Was a five-year member and four-year starter at The Shipley School in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, where she served as a team captain her junior and senior seasons.
  • Played club for Ultimate Lacrosse.
  • Named to the All-Friends School League Lacrosse First Team four times from 2015-18.
  • Earned All-Main Line honors four times, as part of the first team in 2017 and 2018 and the second team in 2015 and 2016.
  • Named the 2017 All-PASLA Most Valuable Player in the Friends School League, in addition to be tabbed to the PASLA All-Academic Team.
  • Also was a captain of the field hockey team her senior year, leading her team to the Friends School League title, in addition to being named all-league.
  • Shipley's recipient of the 2018 White Blazer Award, which is given to a senior athlete showing exemplary athleticism and sportsmanship in more than one varsity sport.
  • Served as her class president her sophomore and senior years.
  • Was a member of the student newspaper, community life and the debate team.
  • Launched "Shipley Spirit Live", a school club for students interested in Communication and Broadcast Journalism.
  • Was a scholarship recipient from the National Association of University Women (NAUW), the Alzheimer's Foundation of America and was named a lead scholar by the University of Virginia and Stanford University.
  • Finished in second place in the NAUW Oratorical Contest.
 
Natalie Hughes – M – 5-5
(Academy of Notre Dame de Namur) Malvern, Penn.

Prior to Cornell
  • Played four years at midfield at the Academy of Notre Dame de Namur, where she served as a team captain her senior year.
  • Played club for Ultimate Lacrosse.
  • Two-time member of the Pennsylvania Area Schoolgirls Lacrosse Association All-Academic Team in 2017 and 2018.
  • She was the 2018 recipient of her school's Blue and Gold Award, which is given to the senior who demonstrates leadership, cooperation and is the ultimate team player for the school's athletic program.
  • Her club team placed fifth at the U15 National Championship in 2015.
  • She was named a scholar athlete all four years of high school.
  • Also served as the tennis captain, which she received First Team All-Main Line and First Team All-Inter Ac recognitions for in 2017.
  • Was a three-year member of the indoor track and field team.
  • Was a member of the National Honor Society, in addition to receiving recognition for maintaining a 4.0 GPA all eight semesters.
  • Recipient of the University of Rochester's George Eastman Young Leaders Award, which is given to a student who demonstrates strong leadership experience in the school and in the classroom.
 
Jen Rogers – M – 5-5
(Exeter High School) Stratham, N.H.

Prior to Cornell
  • Earned four varsity letters in lacrosse playing for Exeter High School, where she served as a team captain her senior year.
  • Played club for Granite State Elite.
  • Was twice named an All-American by US Lacrosse in 2017 and 2018, in addition to being named to their all-academic team in her junior year.
  • Two-time New Hampshire Division 1 All-State First Team selection in 2017 and 2018.
  • Was elected to play in the New Hampshire vs. Vermont All-Star Game her senior year.
  • Named the Seacoast Media Group's 2018 Lacrosse Player of the Year, given to the top lacrosse player in the following areas: Dover, Rochester, Portsmouth, Hampton and Exeter, to across the river in Southern Maine.
  • Named Exeter's Harold Carbonneau Award winner in 2018, which is given to a senior athlete that demonstrates excellent academic and athletic achievement.
  • Also served as a captain for Exeter's soccer team her senior year.
  • Member of her school's indoor track, basketball and skiing teams.
  • A member of the National Honor Society, Rogers also served as her class treasurer.
 
Olivia Tuma – A – 5-6
(The Episcopal Academy) Villanova, Penn.

Prior to Cornell
  • Four-year member of the lacrosse team at The Episcopal Academy, where she was a captain her senior year.
  • Played club for Philly Blast.
  • Member of the 2016 team that won the PAISSA State Championship.
  • Led her team to the Inter-ac title in 2017 and 2018.
  • Named an academic All-American for lacrosse in 2017 and earned PASLA All-Academic honors in 2018.
  • Four-year member of Epsicopal's field hockey and winter track teams.
  • Was a member of the Spanish Honors Society and was on the Honor Roll.
