PRINCETON, N.J. -- The Cornell men's swimming and diving team had a pair of A finalists to conclude the 2022 Ivy League Swimming and Diving Championship at DeNunzio Pool on Saturday. The Big Red took seventh overall with 572 points.
Jacob Bass took eighth overall and made the finals of the 200 breast, with his time in the prelims of 1:56.93 good for No. 2 all-time at Cornell and an NCAA B cut time.
Jack Valiquette was 15th overall in 1:59.80 and
Jack Casey took 23rd with a time of 2:05.23.
Also reaching the finals was
Joseph Gurski in the 200 butterfly. He was seventh overall in 1:45.56, just .13 off the school record and earning an NCAA B cut time.
Alan Li swam a 1:48.08 in the C finals for a 19th place effort at the meet and the No. 7 time ever at Cornell.
Jake Lawson was the team's lone competitor in the 1,650 free, finishing the mile in 15:28.33, just .3 of a second off his best time at Cornell. The Big Red had four finish in the C final of the 200 back though, taking 1-2-4 in the race.
Paige daCosta swam a 1:45.48 to top
Ricardo Martinez (1:46.93, No. 9 all-time),
Van Cates (1:47.51) and Vlad Giszmer (1:49.44) to round out the scoring quartet.
Three Big Red swimmers scored in the C final of the 100 free, with
Sebastian Wolff 18th overall in 44.66, just ahead of Dominc Edwards (44.97).
Jeremy Marcin's prelim time of 44.88 was his best, helping him to 23rd overall.
Jameson Crandell was 10th in the 3-meter dive with a 334.10 in the finals (the fourth-best score all-time at Cornell), with both
Matthew Warren (269.50, No. 9 all-time) and
Soodong Kim (245.00) also earning points for the Big Red's team totals.
The meet closed with the 400 free relay, and Cornell went seventh with a 2:58.41 on the strength of swims by
Jack Banks,
Sebastian Wolff,
Jeremy Marcin and
Dominic Edwards. That was good for 10th on Cornell's all-time charts.
