ITHACA, N.Y. — The Cornell women's tennis team continues its three-match homestand this weekend when it welcomes Indiana and Niagara to the Reis Tennis Center.

Cornell, who is coming off a pair of losses to Syracuse and Delaware last weekend, will play Indiana at 3 p.m. on Friday before hosting Niagara on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Sophomore Lan Mi was the lone Big Red player to win both of her matches last weekend. Following a 6-4 victory in the opening set by Mi, Syracuse's Miyuka Kimoto retired after the first game of the second set. Against Delaware, Mi won a three-set match against Adel-Byanu Abidullina.

Senior Fatima El Ashram claimed a straight-set victory over Delaware's Maryia Hrynashka, 6-4, 7-6 (5) in the Big Red's 5-2 loss to the Blue Hens.

Scouting Indiana

Indiana enters the weekend with a 3-1 record on the spring, having defeated Butler, Bellarmine, and Cincinnati. The Hoosiers lone defeat of the season came to West Virginia last Saturday, 4-3.

Lara Schneider and Saby Nihalani are 2-0 at the Hoosiers' top two spots so far this season. Nihalani is 3-0 after also registering a victory at the No. 3 spot of Indiana's lineup.

Cornell and Indiana played each other last season in Bloomington, Ind., where the Hoosiers took the victory, 4-2.

Mi and Lauren Stein were victorious in singles for the Big Red, while Alexandra Savu and Jenny Wong dominated at No. 2 singles, 6-0, despite Indiana claiming the doubles point.

Scouting Niagara

Niagara is opening its spring season this weekend with a home match against Indiana University of Pennsylvania on Friday before heading to East Hill for Sunday's matchup.

Last year, the Purple Eagles posted an 8-12 overall record and a 3-3 mark in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play.

Cornell and Niagara are facing each other in a duals format for the first time since March 9, 2019, when the Big Red logged a 7-0 victory.

Looking Ahead

Cornell will return to action next weekend in Hanover, N.H., when it participates in the ECAC Indoor Championships. The tournament will take place from Feb. 10-12 at the Boss Tennis Center.
