ITHACA, N.Y. - Men's heavyweight rowing honored
Jack Robinson with the unveiling of the coveted 'Robinson Cup' in it's opening race with Ivy-League counterpart Harvard. Robinson was a beloved team captain for the Big Red, who passed away in Spring of 2022 from cancer. The cup was donated by Harvard and Cornell Law School graduate, Jay Haymond '00. Haymond is a former member of the men's lightweight crew and coaching staff.
The Big Red did not see the results it wanted, finishing behind the Crimson in all five of the varsity eight races. Coach Todd Kennett mentioned, "We may not have gotten the results we had hoped for, but what we do know is that the Robinson Cup will be in good hands, heading back to Jack's hometown area of Boston, Massachusetts". Kennett proceeded to pour a few ounces of water from the Cayuga Inlet into the newly unveiled cup, as a good omen before sending it off with the Robinson Cup victors, Harvard.
