ITHACA, N.Y. -- #5 Cornell sailing posted its best weekend of the spring semester with a first-place finish at this weekend's conference regatta, the MAISA Spring Women's Fleet Race, and a fifth-place finish at the Dellebaugh Women's Team Race. The win at MAISA crowned the Big Red as conference champions and earned the team an auto-bid to the ICSA Women's Team Racing Nationals held at Harvard on Saturday, April 27, though Sunday, April 28. The wins mark the second time this semester that the Big Red paced the top five in both weekend races and the first time that it was in a pool against 10 or more schools.

At the MAISA event, hosted by Hobart and William Smith in Geneva, N.Y., Bridget Green and Sophia Mulvania raced in the A Division, and Sophia Delving and Amelia Neumann raced in the B Division. Cornell bested 14 different schools to claim first place. Green and Mulvania placed second in A by a narrow six points to Georgetown, and Devling and Neumann placed a narrow second in B by six. Combined, the two teams accounted for 67 points, 13 better than Penn, which finished second.

At the Dellenbaugh, skippers Winborne Majette, J.J. Smith, Lauren Ehnot, and Pilar Cundey combined efforts with crew Sophia Pearce, Kit Harned, and Kate Moran for a fifth-place finish in Providence, R.I. In round one, Cornell bested Harvard, MIT, Tulane, and South Florida to advance to the silver bracket, which the Big Red then won after winning four of six races, topping Bowdoin, Tulane, South Florida, and MIT.

Next weekend, Cornell competes in just one regatta, the Prosser Trophy MAISA Team Racing Championship. Action will go down on Saturday, April 6 and continue through Sunday, April 7.
