ITHACA, N.Y. -- Cornell sailing posted a first-place finish at the MAISA Women's Team Race championships to earn its second bid to nationals this spring. The Big Red posted 10 wins and just four losses in the race to seal the win, edging out Ivy for Penn by tiebreaker in St. Mary's City Sunday afternoon.

Amelia Neumann, and
Sophia Pearce to beat Georgetown, Old Dominion, Fordham, and St. Mary's in round one. The group topped Penn, Georgetown, Old Dominion, Navy, Fordham, and St. Mary's in round two, only losing to Hobart and William Smith in round two. In the championship sail-off, The Big Red beat Penn 1-0.
Following the excitement on the water, MAISA named the 2024 conference honors. Headlining the group of awardees was junior
Bridget Green, who was named the 2024 MAISA Women's Sailor of the Year. Freshman
Winborne Majette joined Green on the All-MAISAÂ First Team. Senior
J.J. Smith and Sophomore
Sophia Devling rounded out the Big Red all-conference honors, each being named to the second team.
Elsewhere, Cornell fielded a boat in the Truxtun Umstead Regatta, hosted by NY Maritime. In a regatta with two divisions, Cornell placed 12th overall. In Division A, J.J Smith,
Clara Hewson, and Wynne Williams posted 86 points for a 10th-place finish. In Division B, the Big Red placed 11th with 93 points on performances by Pilar Cindey,
Maya Conway, and Boris Bialer.
Cornell takes on the America Trophy next weekend, hosted by NY Maritime. Action starts on Saturday, April 20 in Throggs Neck, N.Y., and will continue through Sunday, April 20.
