CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — The Cornell Big Red will open the new year against one of the nation's toughest tournament fields when they compete at the Southern Scuffle on Friday and Saturday at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

Competition is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. both days. Saturday's action will run through the main-draw quarterfinals and the first round of consolation matches. Sunday will feature morning consolation rounds and semifinals, followed by medal matches beginning at 3 p.m.

Cornell will bring a deep and experienced traveling roster across multiple weight classes, with several wrestlers entered at select weights. The Big Red lineup for the Southern Scuffle is listed below:

• 133 pounds: Tyler Ferrara is the No. 1 seed, while Brett Ungar enters the bracket as the No. 6 seed.

• 141 pounds: Vince Cornella is seeded second in the 141-pound weight class.

• 149 pounds: Ethan Fernandez is the No. 5 seed at 149 pounds.

• 157 pounds: Meyer Shapiro is the No. 1 seed in the 157-pound bracket.

• 184 pounds: Christian Hansen is seeded second at 184 pounds.

Cornell is one of 28 teams competing at the Southern Scuffle, widely regarded as one of college wrestling's premier in-season tournaments.
