Women's Swim and Dive Claims Ivy Win at Columbia, 197-103

NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Cornell women's swimming and diving team defeated Columbia 197–103 on Friday afternoon at Percy Uris Natatorium. Cornell won 13 of the 16 events and recorded multiple point-scoring finishes throughout the meet to secure the victory.

Cornell opened the meet with a win in the 3-meter diving event, as Lilla Kumziemko placed first with a score of 274.80. Julia Wilkinson followed in second with 266.63 points, while Morgan Ogata finished fourth with 257.85. The Big Red then won the 200-yard medley relay, with the team of Mingna Xu, Nicole Byrnes Cortinas, Sadye Derstadt, and Kate Li touching first in 1:41.59. Cornell's B relay of Aly Yokoyama, Min Xu, Katie Yee, and Ariel Lin placed third in 1:43.94. Erin Dehollander earned Cornell's next victory by winning the 1000-yard freestyle in 9:59.84.

Jungmin Yoon won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:48.63, followed by Arina Vorobyeva in second at 1:51.23 and Isabela Teixeira in fourth at 1:51.86. Rosalee Springer led a Cornell sweep in the 100-yard backstroke, winning in 54.56, with Yoon second in 55.33 and Yokoyama fourth in 55.70. Audrey Holden added a win in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:03.22, while Xu placed fourth in 1:04.79 and Byrnes Cortinas finished sixth in 1:05.45.

Yee claimed first place in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:01.09. Oceane Vanlinthout followed in second at 2:02.56, and Isabel Peng placed fourth in 2:04.29. In the 50-yard freestyle, Li finished second in 23.36, Kyleigh Tangen placed third in 23.80, and Mingna Xu took fourth in 23.87. Cornell also collected points in the 1-meter dive, as Kumziemko placed second with a score of 271.58, Ogata finished third with 260.55, and Brooke Andrews placed fourth at 258.83.

Li earned a win in the 100-yard freestyle, touching first in 51.12, followed by Yoon in third at 51.23 and Tangen in fourth at 51.50. Hojung Yoon won the 200-yard backstroke in 1:57.31, with Springer finishing third in 2:00.01 and Yokoyama fifth in 2:01.87. In the 200-yard breaststroke, Katherine Ferreira placed third in 2:18.42, with Byrnes Cortinas finishing fourth in 2:20.68 and Xu fifth in 2:21.16.

Dehollander earned her second win of the meet in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:57.53, while Vorobyeva placed fourth in 5:04.32. Yee added another victory in the 100-yard butterfly, winning in 55.15, and Mingna Xu finished fourth in 56.44. Cornell closed the meet with a win in the 200-yard IM, as Hojung Yoon touched first in 2:00.83, followed by Vanlinthout in second at 2:04.00 and Ferreira in third at 2:04.15. The Big Red ended the day by winning the 400-yard freestyle relay, with Jungmin Yoon, Tangen, Li, and Springer finishing first in 3:24.07.

The Cornell women's swimming and diving team will return to Teagle Pool on Friday, January 30th for day one of a two-day meet against Ivy foe Brown. The Big Red and the Bears will begin diving competition at 5:00 p.m. on Friday evening, and swimming competition at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday morning.
