ITHACA, N.Y. — Sarah O'Neil and Gabby Sullivan both won singles matches and their respective doubles matches, leading the women's tennis team to an upset 4-3 victory over 48th-ranked Brown on Saturday at Reis Tennis Center.
 
Cornell (9-7, 1-3) brought a seven-match losing streak in league play to a stop with the victory, its first of the season against a nationally ranked opponent. It was the eighth time in 31 all-time meetings that the Big Red has topped the Bears.
 
Cornell captured the doubles point for the 11th time in 16 matches this season. The No. 1 tandem of O'Neil and freshman Lauren Frazier opened the match with a comfortable 8-3 victory, then Sullivan and classmate Sara Perelman finished off an 8-6 win at the No. 3 spot to render the No. 2 match moot.
 
Christine Ordway opened singles play with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Cassandra Herzberg at the No. 2 spot, then O'Neil's 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 win over Misia Krasowski at the No. 1 spot canceled out the Bears' first point, making the score 3-1. Sullivan clinched the match for the Big Red with a 7-5, 6-4 triumph over Julie Flanzer at No. 4. It was Sullivan's ninth victory in singles matches this season, second on the team only to Ryann Young (12). The Bears then won the remaining matches in three sets to draw the score closer.
 
The Big Red continues Ivy League play with a home match against nationally ranked Yale at noon Sunday.
