The Big Red softball team continued its winning ways on Thursday afternoon sweeping Siena in a non-conference doubleheader. Cornell opened with a 4-2 victory over the Saints and followed with a 16-2 win in game two. Senior Jessy Berkey hit a grand slam in game one to drive in all four runs. Cornell has won its last 14 games and moves to 25-5 for the season.

Berkey was 4-for-5 for the day and added a two-RBI double to her grand slam. Junior Ashley Garvey was 5-for-6 at the plate with two doubles and four RBI. Classmate Elise Menaker was 3-for-5. Freshman Lauren Marx picked up the win in game one striking out four batters, while Ali Tomlinson earned the save. In the top of the fifth inning, Siena notched its first run with a solo home run over the left field fence from Powlowsky. Siena followed with another run in the sixth, but the Big Red defense shut them down to win the game.

The Saints took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first in game two, but a Big Red slugfest in the bottom of the inning put Cornell up 10. Menaker, Berkey, and Garvey all hit doubles in the inning.

Siena drove in one more run in the top of the second, but Cornell answered with five more runs in the bottom of the inning. Garvey and freshman Cassie Walisiak each had a double. The Big Red added one more run in the third to end the game after five innings with a 16-2 win.
