ITHACA, N.Y. -- Jack McBride scored as time expired to give Princeton a 10-9 overtime victory against Cornell on Sunday afternoon at Schoellkopf Field and handed the Tigers the first-even Ivy League tournament title. Princeton enters the NCAA tournament with an 11-4 record after earning the conference's automatic bid, while Cornell is expected to earn an at-large bid at 10-5. The Big Red will learn its fate this evening when the NCAA tournament bracket is announced on ESPNU at 8:30 p.m.

The two teams not only shared the Ivy title, but also split a pair of 10-9 contests in the span of eight days with each team winning on the other's home field. Princeton overcame a four-goal deficit in the third quarter and closed hard, taking the lead with 7:30 remaining in the fourth quarter only to see Cornell's Roy Lang tie it up with less than three minutes to play. The next seven minutes, including the four-minute overtime, included several exciting chances on both ends and strong defensive pressure on the ball before McBride beat his defender on a restart and got just enough on his shot to beat AJ Fiore as the horn sounded. It was reminiscent to a last-second loss against Syracuse by the Big Red earlier this season at Schoellkopf Field.

Senior Ryan Hurley had three goals and two assists to lead the Big Red offense, while Rob Pannell had a goal and three assists. The cleanly-played game featured just 21 total turnovers and featured 87 shots between the two teams. Fiore had nine saves in goal for Cornell, while Pierce Derkac caused a turnover and won a game-high six ground balls.

McBride finished the day with three goals, while Rob Engelke notched two goals and an assist, but it was goalkeeper Tyler Fiorito who kept Princeton in the game. The sophomore netminder made 16 saves, including several on the doorstep, to keep the Big Red from extending a 5-2 halftime edge in a game that, through 30 minutes, wasn't necessarily that close.

The game was all Cornell early on, as the Big Red won the opening face-off, thanks to a hard fought ground ball from Derkac, and made Princeton pay immediately, as Hurley scored off a pass from Austin Boykin just 16 seconds into the contest. The Tigers turned the ball over on its first two possessions and Cornell made it a 2-0 game at the 9:55 mark when Pannell found Ross Gillum cutting to the goal and the rookie attackman scored from point-blank range.

Luke Armour got Princeton on the boared as he beat his defender and streaked unabated to the goal, scoring from close range with just under eight minutes to play in the opening quarter.

Moments later, Pannell returned the two-goal advantage to the home team on an amazing shot that beat Fiorito up high, before a man-up goal from Steve Mock, off a pass from Hurley, made it a 4-1 contest at the 2:44 mark.

Princeton won the restart, but a brilliant save from Fiore gave the ball back to the Cornell offense with one minute to go in the quarter. The Big Red worked for the final shot, but an attempt by Pannell was turned away by Fiorito and Cornell took the 4-1 lead into the first break.

Cornell opened the second quarter with its second-straight man-up goal when Hurley scored off a pass from Pannell to make it a 5-1 advantage. The Big Red finished the day going 2-for-6 on extra-man opportunities.

Mike Chanenchuk ended the three-goal Cornell run with a rocket that beat Fiore up high, but both team's offenses slowed down after that with nearly 10 scoreless minutes before Mock tallied his second of the day to make it a 6-2 Big Red lead with 1:59 to play in the half.

Cornell won the restart and held for the last shot, but Fiorito made the save and the Big Red went into the intermission with the 6-2 lead.

Princeton dominated possession time during the third quarter, outscoring the Big Red, 3-1, to cut Cornell's lead to 7-5 entering the pivotal final stanza. During the third quarter the Big Red defense managed to kill a Princeton two-man advantage before eventually giving up a goal to Engelke at the 9:16 mark. Cornell's first prolonged offensive possession of the third quarter resulted in a goal from Jack Dudley, who converted from point-blank range off a pass from Hurley, but back-to-back goals from Engelke and McBride closed the quarter.

Princeton erased the Cornell advantage altogether just three minutes into the quarter, thanks to back-to-back goals from Scott Mackenzie and Chris McBride, but a man-down goal from Hurley restored the lead to the Big Red, 8-7, with 11:44 to play.

The Big Red remained man-down after the goal for 39 seconds, but managed to kill it off before a brilliant save from Fiore sent the ball back into the offensive end for Cornell.

A prolonged possession was broken up when Long Ellis picked off a Big Red pass and McBride scored on the other end when he picked up a rebound off a Fiore save and beat the freshman goalie up high. Princeton won the restart and John Cunningham scored in transition to give the visitors its first lead of the day, 9-8, at the 7:30 mark.

Cornell fought back, however, and Lang knotted the game at 9-9 with 2:51 to play, setting up the dramatic overtime finish.
