Big Red Headlines
The Big Red battled hard in its first ECAC Hockey action of 2015, but the squad had to settle for a pair of ties this past weekend at Lynah Rink. Cornell kicked off the weekend with a 3-3 tie against St. Lawrence on Friday evening. The result looked in doubt after the Big Red allowed two goals in a 2:11 span to start the second period, but the Cornell special teams proved the difference, answering with two goals of its own to escape with the tie. Brianne Jenner tallied two powerplay goals in the contest, while Hanna Bunton sniped her second shorthanded goal of the season for the game-tying goal. The Big Red outshot the Saints 36-23, but could not find a go-ahead goal over the final 25 minutes of regulation and overtime. On Saturday, the Big Red welcomed defending national champ Clarkson to Lynah. The Golden Knights - still smarting from the 8-3 pasting the Big Red laid on them in December - came out with purpose. The squad fired 41 shots on goal in the contest, but sophomore netminder Paula Voorheis proved the difference. She stopped a career high 40 shots to help preserve a 1-1 tie - killing off over eight minutes of penalties down the stretch. Cassandra Poudrier scored the lone goal for Cornell, firing home a shot from the slot that found its way through a jumble of players at the netfront to briefly stake the Big Red to a 1-0 lead. The two ties were not a disastrous result for the Big Red, but it did hinder the squad from making a serious jump in the conference standings. The ties did extend Cornell's unbeaten streak to seven contests dating back to Nov. 22 at Minnesota-Duluth.

About Head Coach Doug Derraugh '91
Derraugh enters his 10th season at the helm of the Cornell women's ice hockey program. Returning to his alma mater before the 2005-06 season, he quickly transformed a program that posted only four wins in the season prior to his appointment into a consistent presence in ECAC Hockey and on the national stage. The Cornell program continues to grow under the guidance of the veteran coach. In 2013-14, he led the program to its fourth ECAC Hockey Tournament title over the last five seasons. All five of the Big Red's NCAA Tournament appearances have come under his leadership. Derraugh has twice been named ECAC Hockey Coach of the Year, most recently during the 2012-13 regular-season and tournament championship season. He is the winningest coach in the history of the program with a 176-107-24 record at Cornell. He returns both excellent assistant coaches Danielle Bilodeau '01 (ninth season) and Edith Racine (sixth season) in 2014-15.

Terrier Headlines
The Terriers have posted and excellent season to-date and enter Tuesday evening as the sixth ranked team in the country, remaining in the top-10 rankings stretching all the way back to preseason.  Boston University has posted a 13-4-2 mark on the year, while its record sits at 9-3 in Hockey East play. The squad enter's the matchup with a 7-1-1 record over its last nine dating back to the beginning of November. The squad is 1-1 thus far in 2015, after splitting a pair of games last week. The Terriers began the week with a much anticipated matchup at cross-town rival No. 1 ranked Boston College. The squad gave the undefeated Eagles one of their toughest games of the season, before ultimately falling 4-3 at Conte Forum. Senior captain Marie-Philip Poulin and junior Kayla Tutino scored 13-seconds apart in the opening frame to stake the Terriers to an early 2-0 lead over their Hockey East rival. However, Boston College closed the gap with a pair of goals to tie the score. Sarah Lefort reestablished the Boston University lead with 29.1 seconds left in the opening period, but BC found the back of the net twice over the final 40 minutes to take the victory, despite sophomore netminder Victoria Hanson's valiant 39 save performance. BU rebounded nicely on Saturday to dispatch Maine 5-3 at Walter Brown Arena. The Terriers enjoyed a total team effort as five different players lighted the lamp for BU. Freshman Victoria Bach led the way with three points (1 goal - 2assists), while Rebecca Leslie, Rebeccca Russo, Dakota Woodworth and Marie-Philip Poulin were the other goal scorers for the Terriers.

The Series With Boston University...
Cornell is 4-2-1 all-time against Boston University. The teams first clashed during the 1982-83 season with the squads battling to a 2-2 overtime tie in Boston. However, the two programs have developed somewhat of a rivalry over recent seasons.

The squads would not meet again until the 2010-11 NCAA Frozen Four in Erie, Pa. The Terriers handled the Big Red by a final count of 4-1 in that matchup. Kaylee Overguard opened the scoring for the Big Red just 5:30 into the game to stake Cornell to the 1-0 lead. Amanda Young sprang Rebecca Johnston with a pass up the boards to set up a three-on-two for the Big Red moving into the attacking zone. Johnston gave a head and shoulders fake, before dishing the puck to Overguard, who slipped a soft shot five-hole for the goal. The Terriers would respond just 5:08 later when Catherine Ward powered a slapper from the point that found its way through a screen and past Cornell netminder Amanda Mazzotta. The Terriers would break the game open in the final minutes of the second period when Jillian Kirchner and Jenelle Kohanchuk scored :50 seconds apart to power the victory.

The two programs battled three times during the 2011-12 season, with the Big Red scoring all three victories at Lynah Rink. Cornell swept a two-game early season non-conference set in emphatic fashion, outscoring the Terriers by a combined 10-2 score over the two days. The teams would later meet in the regional round of the NCAA Tournament with a Frozen Four berth on the line. The Big Red would beat the Terriers 8-7 in a wild three-overtime game, which holds the record  for the longest NCAA Tournament game ever played. Both team's came back from three goal deficits to finish 7-7 at the end of regulation. After 14 goals were scored over the first 60 minutes, it took nearly another 60 before a puck would find the back of the net again. Finally, with 10 seconds remaining in the third overtime, Lauriane Rougeau charged the BU zone one-on-three and beat netminder Kerrin Sperry to send Lynah into a frenzy.

The teams met for a two-game set to open the 2012-13 season in Boston. The squads split the series with each squad posting a lopsided victory.

Cornell is 3-0-0 lifetime against Boston University at Lynah Rink.

Last Matchup With the Terriers...
Cornell has faced Boston University since the season opening series to kickoff the 2012-13 season. Cornell took the first game of the set by a 5-2 count, with five different players finding the back of the net for the Big Red. The turning point in the game came half way through the contest when Taylor Woods and Emily Fulton both tallied shorthanded goals 1:02 apart as Morgan Richardson was off serving a two-minute minor for boarding. The goals turned a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 lead sparking four unanswered goals for the Big Red in the contest.

The Terriers got their revenge the following night with a 5-1 victory of their own. Cornell got on the board first in the contest when Laura Fortino tallied on the powerplay just 4:18 into the second period. The Terriers responded with five unanswered goals with a pair coming from Marie-Philip Poulin.

Dynamic Duo
Cornell seniors Brianne Jenner and Jillian Saulnier have taken their game to another level in recent contests. The duo exploded for huge weeks, leading the Big Red to a 3-0-1 finish to the year 2014 in one its tougher four-game stretches of the season. Jenner posted 11 points (2g-9a), while Saulnier added eight points (3g-5a). When both players are rolling it is truly a sight to behold as the pair can take over games. This was evidenced best in the Big Red's rout of then-sixth ranked Clarkson at Cheel Arena. The pair combined for three goals in 3:23 – each scoring a shorthanded goal – to almost instantly change a 1-0 deficit into a commanding 3-1 lead. The outburst sparked the rest of the squad, as the Big Red would go on to tally five more times, with the pair having a hand in seven of the eight goals scored on the night. Jenner started off 2015 with a pair of powerplay goals in the 3-3 tie against St. Lawrence, while Saulnier added an assist on the second Jenner powerplay tally.

Poll Position
With the fantastic 3-0-1 week, which included victories over ranked Clarkson and vote getter St. Lawrence, as well as a tie against ranked Mercyhurst, Cornell found itself at the bottom of the polls released by USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine and the USCHO. The big week also helped Cornell make its first appearance in the Pairwise rankings used to help determine at-large bids to the NCAA Tournament. Cornell briefly jumped back into the top-10 of the USCHO.com poll last week, but the pair of ties over the weekend dropped the squad back into the first team in the receiving votes category of the poll. Cornell has remained steady in that same position of the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll over the past few releases of the poll. Although the pair of ties dropped Cornell just a couple of points in the poll, the squad saw a minor boost to its standing in the Pairwise rankings. The Big Red currently sits 13th in the latest Pairwise standings, after holding in 14th place heading into this past weekend.

Free Hockey
Cornell has shown a proclivity for giving its fans some free hockey in recent games. The Big Red went 65 minutes without determining a victor in both contests over the weekend. Over the last six games the team has gone to overtime three times with all three coming in the friendly confines of Lynah Rink. The last time that Cornell went to overtime in back-to-back games was the final two games of the 2009-10 NCAA Frozen Four, when the squad bested Mercyhurst 3-2 in the semifinal game, before falling in three overtimes 3-2 to Minnesota-Duluth in the championship game. The last time the Big Red earned back-to-back ties came one season earlier during the stretch run of the 2008-09 regular season when the squad tied Quinnipiac 4-4 and Princeton 2-2 with both games coming on the road.

 Killin' It
Cornell has been sensational on the penalty kill this season and has been especially strong in recent games. While the unit has killed penalties at a 82.7% clip for the season, it has held the opposition scoreless on 20 of the last 22 chances dating back to the beginning of December. The unit went 9-of-10 over the weekend, which included a huge kill of a five-minute major late in the waning minutes against Clarkson on Saturday. The penalty kill hasn't just been a positive in the defensive zone, but has also been a boon to the Big Red in the offensive end as well. Cornell has tallied three goals while playing a player down over the last four games, which includes Hanna Bunton's game-tying goal against St. Lawrence on Friday. Overall, the Big Red has scored five times shorthanded, while it has allowed opponents 13 goals total on the year.

All Gold Everything
Brianne Jenner returns to East Hill for her senior season in 2014-15 and she's bring some hardware with her. The Big Red captain won a gold medal as a member of the Canadian National Team that defeated the United States 3-2 in overtime in the gold medal game of the XXII Olympic Winter Games held in Sochi, Russia. Although Jenner was one of the youngest members of Team Canada in the Olympics, she had a monumental impact in winning Canada's fourth straight gold medal. After the United States held a 2-0 lead through 56-minutes, Jenner sparked the furious Canadian comeback in the final 3:30, firing home a shot through heavy traffic in front of the USA net. Canada would go on to score the tying goal in the final minute, before ending it with a power play marker halfway through the first overtime session to complete the comeback.

Coach Canada
While head coach Doug Derraugh has been a fixture as the bench boss for the Big Red for the last nine seasons, he will also wear another coaching cap in 2014-15. This past summer, Hockey Canada announced that Derraugh will serve as the head coach for the Canada National Women's Team for the first year of the new Olympic cycle following the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, this past year. He brings a wealth of experience to the position and will be quite familiar with team operations after serving as an assistant coach on the Canadian National Team that won the gold medal at the 2012 IIHF Ice Hockey Women's World Championship. Derraugh is expected to miss minimal game action for the Big Red; however, associate head coach Danielle Bilodeau '01 and assistant coach Edith Racine will be more than capable to step in if a conflict does arise.

4 Nations Cup
Cornell had a big presence at last week's 4 Nations Cup that was hosted at Kamloops, British Columbia. In addition to Derraugh being the bench boss for Team Canada, seven current and former Big Red players participated at the event. Current team members Jillian Saulnier and Brianne Jenner had huge impacts at the tournament for Team Canada. Saulnier (1-0 – 1pt) scored the game-winning goal in Canada's 2-0 opening game victory over Sweden, while Jenner (0-1 – 1pt) scored the lone goal in the shootout of Canada's 3-2 victory over the United States in the gold medal game. Former Cornellians Rebecca Johnston '12 (3-0 – 3pts), Laura Fortino '13 (0-2 – 2pts), Lauriane Rougeau '13 (0-1 – 1pt), and Jessica Campbell '14 (3gp) also had excellent tournaments for the Canadian team. Alyssa Gagliardi '14 also appeared in one game on the blue line for the United States. The tournament victory was Derraugh's first at the helm of the national team.

Winning-Time
Cornell has been the winningest program in ECAC Hockey over the last five seasons. The Big Red has averaged over 26 wins per season in compiling a 133-29-10 (.802) record since 2009-10. Cornell won the regular-season title four of those five years with the stretch of four straight coming to an end last season. The next closest ECAC Hockey squads in terms of recent wins are Harvard and Clarkson. The Crimson have amassed a 106-42-17 (.694) record, while the Golden Knights check-in with a 118-54-21 (.666) record. Cornell looks to have the ball rolling after an impressive weekend sweep of Brown and Yale.

Fast Start for Fulton
Senior right wing Emily Fulton has gotten off to a torrid start on the offensive end this season. She is second on the Big Red in points and first in goals with a 7-10 – 17 line through the first 13 games of the year. She broke a two-game point drought with a goal in the Big Red's 6-2 victory over Syracuse, while she helped set up the team's game-winning goal and added a huge insurance goal to seal the 4-2 victory over St. Lawrence. She currently is tied for eighth in the conference for points (17), while she's tied for ninth in assists (10). She ranks fourth in ECAC Hockey and 13th overall nationally with a 1.31 points per game average. She has recorded a multi-point game in seven of her 13 games played this season. She rang in the New Year with a two assist effort in the Big Red's 3-0 victory over McGill and one helper in the 3-3 tie against St. Lawrence on Jan. 9.

Century Mark
With her two point effort in the victory over St. Lawrence, Fulton reached the century mark for career points. Her 99th point came on an excellent pass on a tic-tac-toe play to set up Jillian Saulnier on the backdoor for a tap-in goal to net a 3-2 lead. Her 100th point came on a sinister wrist shot from the right circle that beat Saints net-minder Carmen MacDonald top shelf to ice the game.

O'Connor's Outburst
Freshman defender Erin O'Connor has been an immediate contributor on a Big Red blue-line which saw significant attrition from last year's ECAC Hockey title squad. The young blue-liner had a big final week of 2014, posting at least one point in each game, which included multi-point (1g-1a) efforts against Syracuse and Clarkson. The big week netted O'Connor her second ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week award on the season. She has now recorded five multi-point games on the year. She is fourth on the team in both points (15) and assists (11). She currently ranks second in points and assists, while she is first in goals (4) and power-play goals (3) among all Division I freshmen blue-liners. She is tied for ninth nationally in points among all defenders regardless of class year.

Big Night for Brown
The third year winger has enjoyed a breakout season for the Big Red. Although recognized more often for her hard work as an energy player on the forecheck, Brown has been a consistent presence on the score sheet for the squad this season. She enters the matchup against Boston University with a 4-6 – 10 line. She set a new career high for points in a season with her assist on Saturday against Clarkson. Brown needs one goal and one assist to set new career highs for a season in both categories. She saved her best for Cornell's biggest game of the year to-date at then-sixth ranked Clarkson. She netted her first career hat trick and a four-point night overall in the Big Red's blasting of the Golden Knights.

Monthly Awards
The Big Red has been no stranger to ECAC Hockey weekly awards, but two players did one better by earning monthly recognition from the league. Brianne Jenner was named ECAC Hockey Player of the Month for December, while freshman blue-liner Erin O'Connor earned ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Month honors. The two have been hotter than wildfire over recent contests and will be relied upon heavily this weekend.

Joltin' Jenner
The center has not disappointed and seems to be hitting her stride as the conference season begins to heat up. She posted a huge 2-9 – 11 line over her last four games of 2014 and currently is first on the team with 20 points (8g-12a) through 13 games played this season. She posted an incredible finish to 2014, collecting two goals and five assists in the contests against Clarkson and St. Lawrence, which included a game-changing performance on the penalty kill to turn a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 advantage against the Golden Knights. She earned ECAC Hockey Player of the Week honors for the excellent showings. Jenner has also really come on strong as the Big Red's top faceoff option. She currently sits at 52.9% on the season with 162 faceoff wins in 306 opportunities. With a strong finish, Jenner has a legitimate chance to finish in the top-three on the program's all-time lists for points, goals, and assists. The only other Big Red player to accomplish that feat was Cheryl Hines (1976-80). She did not skip a beat in her first game of 2015, tallying two powerplay goals in the 3-3 tie against St. Lawrence.

Sensational Saulnier
Saulnier has also heated up since being paired with Jenner on the team's top line. She marked a goal and assist in the Big Red's 6-2 victory over the Orange. She continued the run against Clarkson, getting the Big Red on the board on a shorthanded breakaway to tie the game at 1-1. She later made a spectacular no-look backhand pass right to the stick to Brianne Jenner, while face down on the ice, to set up the Big Red's second goal on the penalty kill. She currently ranks 10th in NCAA Division I in points per game (1.31), while she ranks second in ECAC Hockey, trailing just Jenner's mark of 1.54. She currently is tied for 16th in the conference with 17 points. Similar to Jenner, Saulnier is also creeping up the all-time lists in several categories and will likely challenge for top-five all-time rankings in several categories. She collected a two goals and an assist in the Big Red's 3-0 shutout of McGill, while she added an assist in the 3-3 tie of St. Lawrence.

Career Numbers Watch
* Brianne Jenner currently sits in fifth place on the all-time list in career points (198), third in assists (112), and tied for sixth in goals (86). With her three point effort against Syracuse, she passed Rebecca Johnston (2007-11) for fifth all-time. With her three assists on Tuesday against Syracuse she passed Cyndy Schlaepfer (1975-1978) for third all-time. After her two-goal game vs. St. Lawrence she passed Amy Stanzin (1982-86) for sixth all-time.
* Jillian Saulnier currently sits in seventh place on the all-time list in career points (168) and is fifth all-time in assists (102). With her goal against St. Lawrence she cracked the top-10 all-time list. With her assist against St. Lawrence she passed Catherine White for seventh in points and fifth in assists. She currently sits at 66 career goals, which tied her again with White for 10th on the all-time list.
* Emily Fulton currently sits at 101 points – 44 goals and 57 assists – joining the century club with her goal and assist against St. Lawrence.

Up Next
Cornell will hit the road for the first time in 2015 for ECAC Hockey matchups at Yale on Jan. 16 and at Brown on Jan. 17. Opening faceoff for both games is scheduled for 4 p.m.
