First Day SummariesÂ
NEW YORK – The Big Red fencing team earned a pair of victories on the first day of the 2015 Ivy League Round Robin, downing Brown and Yale, while falling to Princeton and Penn to finish at 2-2 on the day. The tournament will conclude tomorrow at Columbia's Levien Gymnasium in New York City with Cornell taking on the host Lions and Harvard.
Individually, a pair of Big Red fencers --
Victoria Wines and
Jasmine Chow -- sit in the top five in the women's epee. Wines is tied for second with a record of 10-2 on the day, while Chow is fifth with a record of 8-4. The third member of the Big Red epee squad,
Olivia Weller, sits in 15th place. Cornell's three primary foil fencers sit within one place of each other, with
Luby Kiriakidi in 12th place, while
Angelica Gangemi and
Ediona Sera are both tied for 13th. For the saber squad,
Megan Buteau leads Cornell in 13th place, while
Regina Chen and
Alaina Uhouse are in 18th and 19th place, respectively.Â

The Big Red opened the day with a 20-7 loss to Princeton before defeating Yale for the third straight season in a 17-10 decision. All three weapons were victorious with the epees using a dominating 8-1 victory to lead the Big Red. The foils finished at 7-2, while the sabers squeaked out the 5-4 win.

Cornell fell to Penn in the third round to Penn, despite a 6-3 performance by the Big Red epees, before the team went on to defeat Brown by a single-point for the second year in a row, earning a 14-13 victory in consecutive seasons. Once again, the epees led the way for Cornell with a 7-2 victory, while the sabers doubled up the Bears, 6-3.
