Final Results NEW YORK CITY – Cornell sophomore
Victoria Wines placed first among 58 epee fencers to earn the gold medal at the 2015 NCAA Northeast Regional, the largest of the four regions, held today at New York University. Wines, who finished with a silver medal at the same event a year ago, punches her ticket to the NCAA Tournament, held March 19-22 at Ohio State University's French Field House.
In addition to Wines outstanding finish, the Big Red had two others place in the top 10 –
Olivia Weller (10th – epee) and
Ediona Sera (10th – foil), while
Yolanda Li (12th – epee) and
Angelica Gangemi (13th – foil) rounded out the top 13. With their outstanding finishes, the quartet will all be in contention for an at-large big to the NCAA Tournament.
The official list of fencers to qualify for the NCAA Championship tournament will be released Tuesday afternoon.
Rounding out Cornell's fencers at the Northeast Regional were
Luby Kiriakidi (17th – foil),
Megan Buteau (20th – saber) and
Alaina Uhouse (33rd – saber).
