ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell women's swimming and diving team had a strong effort against two of the Ivy League's top squads, dropping its home opening double dual meet against Penn and Princeton on Saturday morning at Teagle Pool.
Cornell had a number of impressive efforts, starting on Friday with the diving.
Jacqueline Real won the 3-meter competition comfortably (259.65) and finished fourth in the 1-meter (242.95) for early key points.
Currie Murch Elliot was second overall in the 1,000 free (10:19.55) while shaving nearly 19 seconds off her season best time and topping Princeton's swimming field. She also placed third in the 200 IM (2:06.95) while finishing ahead of the Penn swimmers.
Helen Hsu was second in the 100 back (56.17) and ahead of all the Penn competitors, as was
Ellie Belilos in the 100 free (51.81). Hsu also placed third in the 100 fly (56.56).
The Big Red closed the meet strong with a second in the 400 free relay behind
Chloe Mikles, Belilos, Hsu and Cari Stakaitis, with Hsu's blistering third leg (50.54) the fastest among all swimmers in the event to move Cornell from third to second and ahead of the Quakers.
