ITHACA, N.Y. – The women's track and field team held its annual postseason awards banquet this week, and The Alan B. '53 and Elizabeth Heekin Harris Head Women's Coach and Director of Cornell Track & Field/Cross Country
Rich Bowman presented nine student-athletes with the program's 12 awards. The team also named its captains for the 2017-18 season.
Senior tri-captain
Adrian Jones took home four awards. Jones took home the Hank Russell Award for the best sprinter, the "JInky" Crozier Award for the most valuable athlete, the Blanford Award for the most career Ivy League Heptagonal points and the Gatling Award for the senior who has accomplished the most. Jones has posted 11 top-five Heps finishes in her four-year career and this past weekend, had one of the best sprinting performances in school history. She was a member of the school record-setting 4x100 meter relay team that placed second and also ran the fastest 100 and 200s in program history with a pair of wind-aided marks (11.55w in the 100 and 23.52w in the 200) to take third in both.
The Dr. George Ladas Award for best thrower went to junior
Taylor Baker. Baker, who set career-highs in the shot put, hammer and weight throw this year, had three top eight finishes at the outdoor Heps in the discus (sixth, 145'2"), hammer (seventh, 175'7"), and shot put (eighth, 44'6.75"). Overall, she placed in the top 10 on 21 occasions throughout the winter and spring seasons.
Freshman
Brittany Stenekes earned the Marc Deneault Award for the most outstanding freshman after a record breaking rookie season. At the outdoor Heps, she broke a school record in the 100 hurdles with a 13.74 (breaking her own freshman record in the process) for fourth and was a part of the school record-setting 4x100 relay squad that placed second. She also set a record in the 60 hurdles at indoor Heps (8.54) to finish second.
Gaynelle Boham was presented with the Fleet Morse Award for the team's most improved athlete. The senior finished third in the triple jump at the indoor Heps with a career-best 39'7.75" and finished second at the Cabin Fever Invitational in the long jump with a career best 18'.5". She also took the triple jump at both the Robert J. Kane Invitational and the Big Red Outdoor Invitational.
The Theodota Ladas Award for the best middle distance runner was given to junior tri-captain
Shannon Hugard. At the indoor Heps in February, Hugard won the 800 (2:09.31) and finished second in the 1000 (2:48.00). She also finished fourth in the 1500 at last weekend's Heps and just two weeks before that at the Larry Ellis Invitational, won the 800 (2:11.96) and set a personal best (4:22.11) in the 1500.
Sophomore
Briar Brumley was given the Dr. George Ladas Award for best distance runner after her 10:27.87 for fourth place in the 3K steeplechase at last weekend's Heps. Earlier this season, Brumley set a personal record for a third place finish at the Larry Ellis Invitational (10:13.03). Brumley also placed first at the Rafer Johnson/Jackie-Joyner Kersee Invitational and second at the Bob Larsen Distance Carnival as well as a fourth place finish in the mile at the indoor Heps.
Kate Gulbrandsen earned the Theodata Ladas Award for just jumper. The junior finished 10th or higher in every single meet this season – including six top three finishes – and won the indoor Heps title with a clearance of 5'8" and followed that up with a sixth place performance at the outdoor Heps.
Junior tri-captain
Taysia Radoslav earned the Walker Smith Award for Best Hurdler. Radoslav finished second at the outdoor Heps in the 400 hurdles (58.88) and had a first place finish at the UCLA Legends Invitational (58.36). She also took first in the 500 at the indoor Heps and was a member of the second place 4x400 relay team at both the indoor and outdoor conference meets. She never finished outside the top five of any event she entered, indoors or outdoors.
The Spindler Award (coaches' award) was given to senior
Kacie Hargett. Hargett was a finalist in the javelin at outdoor Heps, using a 121'9" to place seventh. She finished third at the UCLA Legends Invitational (136'9") and fifth at the Rafer Johnson/Jackie-Joyner Kersee Invitational (129'5").

Ellen Shepard were named captains for the 2016-17 season.
