CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Big Red volleyball team gave Harvard all it could handle, but came up just short, falling this evening to the Crimson, 3-1. The home team won the first set, 25-18, but the Big Red stormed back to win the second, 25-21.  Harvard (7-4, 2-0 Ivy) won the third set, 25-20, and then fought off a furious fourth-set rally in which Cornell came back from four points down (20-16) to win, 26-24.
 
Cornell (5-6, 1-1 Ivy) had a trio of players register double-digit kills, led by 
Samanta Arenas' career-high 15 kills. Reigning Ivy League Player of the Week 
Emily Wemhoff finished with 12 kills, while 
Kit McCarty chipped in 11. McCarty had a solid all-around night, hitting .226 for the game (11-4-31) and adding five block assists. Sophomore 
Jenna Phelps was also outstanding, finishing with a team-high .533 hitting percentage with eight kills and no errors on 15 attempts to goal along with eight total blocks (one solo).
 
Freshman setter 
Zoe Chamness tallied 27 assists, while 
Chelsea Sincox finished with 15. Libero 
Kiley McPeek registered 10 digs, while 
Lily Barber had nine on the evening.
 
The Crimson were led by Grace Roberts Burbank's 14 kills, while Christina Cornelius had 11 kills and finished with a .429 hitting percentage. Running the offense, Harvard setter Erin McCarthy had an outstanding night, finishing with 40 assists, 12 digs, and six kills on six attempts.
 
Cornell is back in action tomorrow evening when it takes on Dartmouth at Leede Arena on Saturday, Sept. 30 at 5 p.m.
