PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The men's squash team returned to Ivy League play Saturday, dropping a close 5-4 decision against Brown at Pizzitola Squash Courts.
Using a five-court format, Brown (6-5) and Cornell (6-8) were tied at 2 after the opening rotation.
Perry Hanson needed extra points twice, but still defeated his opponent in three games at No. 2.
Illia Presman fought back after dropping the first game at No. 4, winning in four.
Brown, which entered the week tabbed 16th in the Dunlop College Squash Rankings, took a 3-2 lead with a three-game win at No. 5. Freshman Luke Park won his collegiate debut at No. 7 in three and
Andy Muran rallied from a 2-0 deficit to win in five at No. 1, but it wasn't enough for Cornell.
While on the surface the loss would figure to set back 15th-ranked Cornell, the Big Red also defeated 13th-ranked Navy earlier in the week – thus any movement in national rankings won't likely be cut and dry.
Cornell concludes the weekend with a noon Sunday visit to ninth-ranked Yale (7-6).
