HANOVER, N.H. — Junior
Michelle Wang and sophomore
Ananya Dua won singles matches, but the women's tennis team was set defeated by Dartmouth, 5-2, on Saturday in a matchup of two of the programs that shared the 2017 Ivy League title.
After Dartmouth (9-10, 2-2 Ivy League) captured the doubles point, all six singles matches were decided in straight sets – though there were a pair of second-set tiebreakers. One of those belonged to Dua, where she held on to improve to 3-0 when she's been moved up the No. 2 position in the lineup. Her seven singles victories overall are tied for the team lead with senior
Priyanka Shah and freshman
Cheyenne Lilienthal.
Just before Dua won, Wang accounted for Cornell's first point with a 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 6. It's Wang's first Ivy League singles victory in four attempts.
Cornell (6-11, 0-4) will play its final road match of the season at 1 p.m. Sunday, when it visits first-place Harvard in a match that will be broadcast on Ivy League Network.
