ITHACA, N.Y. — The doubles team of senior
Priyanka Shah and sophomore
Ananya Dua defeated a nationally ranked tandem from Princeton, but the Tigers would forge on for a 7-0 victory over the women's tennis team on Friday afternoon at Reis Tennis Center.
In a match that pitted two of the three teams that shared the 2017 Ivy League championship against each other, Princeton (14-3, 2-0) continued to show the form that has made it a front-runner to repeat this year. But that was only after Dua and Shah secured a 6-1 victory at No. 1 doubles against a Princeton duo that was ranked 89th in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association this week. It left the balance of the day's opening point on the No. 3 doubles match, which the Tigers won, 6-2.
The seniors for Cornell (6-9, 0-2 Ivy League) had the squad's strongest showings in their respective first sets of singles. Shah won four games at No. 1 and
Madison Stevens – who prevailed in both of her singles matches against Princeton last year – won five at No. 4. The Big Red ultimately lost each singles match in straight sets.
Up next for the Big Red is a match on the road at 1 p.m. Sunday against Penn at Hamlin/Hecht Tennis Centers in Philadelphia.
